Emerson continues to weather political storm here keeping him from Ottawa

VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - If David Emerson can't be in Ottawa, the federal government will go to David Emerson.

The Canadian press has learned that the federal government is taking the unusual step of giving the embattled trade minister his transition briefings at home in Vancouver, where he is weathering a political storm.

Government officials can't put a price tag on the briefings, which have seen at least seven high-ranking international trade bureaucrats visit Emerson in B.C.

Emerson left Ottawa last week while under fire for switching from the Liberals to the Conservative party right after the election.
