Memos Detail 74 CIA Landings in Canada
"TORONTO (AP) - CIA planes have landed in Canada 74 times since the 9/11 terror attacks, underscoring fears that the United States is ferrying suspected terrorists through its neighboring country en route to foreign prisons for torture, according to newly declassified government documents.

The government memos were released this week under Canada's Access to Information Act. The Associated Press obtained them Thursday from The Canadian Press."
----------------------------------
"One memo dated Nov. 28 instructed officials to tell the media that there was ``no credible information to suggest that these planes were used to ferry suspected terrorists to and from Canada, or that illegal activity took place.''

A spokesman for the CIA in Washington declined comment on Thursday."

I don't get this really, if they were doing something as dodgy as extraordinary rendition to eastern Europe or the Middle East, why risk this extra stop here? Is it that much of a shortcut to go over the North Pole instead of the Atlantic to risk this?

1. I am not surprised, Anne McClellan was lying through her teeth
whrn questioned on this. It is interesting this has come out now. I shall await the PM's response on this, lol. I guess I will be waiting a while seeing as he is in hiding from the press.

2. Thanks for posting this. I sent it to the Vancouver talk station
since they have a "suggest a topic" email address.

Can't hurt.

I wonder what else we don't know.

3. Err, sidenote..
Which is the Vancouver talk radio channel you listen to tuvor? is it available online? I usually listen to MOJO and the Big Hairy Fox online at work, but i haven't found a good local talk radio from the coast (i'm up in the OK Valley and our local radio blows).

4. CKNW, and it's online.
Audio archives are available, too, although you have to sign up. www.cknw.com

It's not my ideal, but between that and CBC, it keeps me entertained and somewhat informed when I'm on the road. The music stations in my neck of the woods are absolutely awful.

I still have CKNW bookmarked, but only ever used them to audio override the Canuck's play-by-play in the evenings >.<

Why don't you suggest they discuss the same topic? ;)
