Senators did not look good tonight |
|
Other than the first few minutes, there was no effort, little hitting, too many givaways, and Tortorella outcoached Murray tonight. The only bright spot is that Havlat's timing and performance are coming around. Sens kept backing up in their own zone, giving the Lightning way way too much space.
Sens were out checked, out hit, out worked, out mentalled, out coached, and out everythinged tonight. If the Sens think they can relax like that and hope Emery saves the day, they'll be playing golf in May again. Emery is decent, but he aint no Hasek.
Sorry for starting this thread here, but I couldn't find any hockey groups. Go Sens Go!!

The Sens did play poorly, and even worse, with all but a few exceptions, most Sens played without much passion. What was even more worrisome was that T Bay played with monumental passion (especially the key trio).
Personally, I am beginning to fear that Ottawa-obsessed prognosticators and fans (I'm one) may have been too influenced at the outset of this series by the fact that Ottawa stood first in the regular season, while T Bay struggled for eighth spot.
While this palcement in the standings may be true, we may have overlooked a far more salient fact, which is that the T Bay team is lead by the same core group that won the Cup last time out.
Experience has shown that if you underestimate in the early rounds a team that has already shown that it can go all the way and win the Cup, then you may want to start booking tee-times for mid-May.
It would be a shame if this was the fate of the Sens, since its hard to imagine they will ever have (at least in the near term) as good a shot at the Cup as what they have right now.
