Woman, 74, attacked while shielding small dog
EDMONTON - A 74-year-old Edmonton woman suffered a broken arm and black eye when a man attacked her as she tried to protect her small dog from a Rottweiler running loose on the street.

Cecilia Cunningham was walking her Shih Tzu named Scooter on Tuesday when the Rottweiler charged her.

She was trying to shield her dog and shoo the bigger dog away when a man ran out of a nearby house, hit her in the back of the head and knocked her to the ground, she said.

He has also been given two tickets under the city's animal control bylaw, one of them for letting his dog run loose on a city street.

1. Thank God for the good samaritans - the article didn't say if the
Shih Tzu was ok. I hope so.

2. After my dog was almost mauled by an unleashed German Shepard
I'm always on guard. Some people just don't get it.. Undisciplined, unleashed big dogs often see small dogs as food. I'm to the point where I pick up my dog every time I see a bigger dog running our way, even if it turns out to be friendly.

4. I have a Rottie but he is a big baby.
I have 5 cats too and two of them kick his ass! Its all in how you teach them and train them. Unfortunately the ones who are not trained properly give the rest a bad name.

5. Why do these guys never get the shit kicked outta them by samaritans?
One day...one day the right good samaritan is gonna see something like this and kick the ever-loving shit outta someone who really deserves it.
