1. Fresh off the Net...

... and Ken Dryden makes it 10

Joins Ontario's Gerrard Kennedy, Bob Rae in race
Apr. 28, 2006. 04:28 PM
FROM CANADIAN PRESS

The federal Liberal leadership race got a big boost in star power Friday as Ken Dryden squeezed his name onto a crowded roster of candidates.

But the hockey legend insists it’s actions, not his name, that will give him the best shot at winning the contest.

“Name recognition can come and go,” the former Montreal Canadiens goaltender said after officially declaring his candidacy just two years after winning his first political race.

More jaw-dropping over the announcement at The Star

Kennedy had a hockey scholarship...played defense! Can't find any links regarding whether any of the other Liberal candidates are hockey players.

Dryden's big strike against him: Child Care! ...that will weigh on him more than a set of goalies' hockey bags left in a Sherbrooke snowbank for the winter...

2. Will never happen...
He's one of those "guys i'd love to have a beer with over the backyard fence", but his French is even worse than his English. Even if he is right on 100% of his policy positions the press will annhilate him for his diction while speaking Francois.

4. Is his French any worse than Harper's?
I recall hearing a couple of Quebec journalists talking about Harper's French, during the French debates. According to them, it was far from fluent.

6. Don't get me wrong, love the guy...
I really would love to have a beer with him (opposed to someone 'deciding' shit down south), he'd have better stories than 99.5% of the population. I just think the press will play it up combined with his short time in the HP. His priority is education, which will be our most important issue over the next half century imo, it will be tough for him though with the list seeking the position growing still.
