Wear Republican Red For Harper Every Friday!
TORONTO (CP) - The mother of a Canadian solider serving in Kandahar is urging people across the country to wear red on Fridays until every member of the armed forces is home.

This is the second or thrid time I've seen this story floated. Maybe someone wants it to gain traction.

I'm sure the mother's intentions are admirable, but I wonder if she is waware that this wear red thing is part of a pro-war campaign mounted in the US by somewhat murkey forces.

See http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/r/redfridays.htm and http://redfridays.us/

Far as I can tell, the sole purpose of this campaign is to isolate anyone in the community who doesn't want to wear a badge in support of Bush's Iraq fiasco.

I'd be willing to wager that the Canadian mom doesn't know much of this background, and probably doesn't even know that red is the colour of the Republican party. But I suspect that those who are pumping her cause are aware of the potential this "wedge" campaign has for polarizing Canadians.
