It's a slower pace of life out there and many people working in retail probably enjoy having the day off with their families.
No much use having a monday or wednesday off when everyone else of at work or at school.
I also enjoy Sunday shopping, but I could live without it. It's not a religious thing for me.

fundies, the left, and small business work together to beat out the other guys again. :-P
This isn't done so much of religious fervour as to appeal to keep community businesses competitive without their owners having to sacrifice a their way of life.
