Is Canada Disappearing
In late September and early October, four distinguished thinkers took time out from their very busy lives to address and debate the question "Is Canada Disappearing From The World Stage?" Ken Alexander, The Walrus's publisher and editorial director, moderated the exchange. The magazine is grateful to Aeroplan for sponsoring this special online posting, as well the "interactive chat room" scheduled for October 28, 2004 (between 4-6 p.m. EST), when readers can speak directly to two of the panelists, Michael Adams and Stephen Handelman. For important information on how to join this discussion, please read these instructions.

Participants:

Michael Adams, author of Fire and Ice: The United States, Canada, and the Myth of Converging Values

Stephen Handelman, TIME Canada columnist, author of Comrade Criminal, and co-author of Biohazard

Linda McQuaig, journalist and author of It's The Crude, Dude: War, Big Oil, and the Fight for the Planet

Pamela Wallin, Canada's Consul General to New York City and former print and broadcast journalist

2. Would that be a bad thing?
Speaking as a resident of a country who has been hogging the world stage, there are worse fates.
