Harper a hypocrite on donations, Volpe says
CAMPBELL CLARK
From Tuesday's Globe and Mail
"OTTAWA — Liberal leadership candidate Joe Volpe has attacked Prime Minister Stephen Harper for hypocrisy after the Conservatives blocked efforts to restrict political donations from children.
Mr. Harper and his cabinet repeatedly criticized Mr. Volpe after he received five donations of $5,400 each from under-18 children of current and former executives of Apotex Inc.
But as the Conservatives' flagship legislation, the Federal Accountability Act, wound its way through the Commons last week, Mr. Harper's Tories blocked two amendments that would have restricted donations from minors.
"It seems to me that he's been a little bit less than sincere in this," Mr. Volpe said. "I've had to bear the brunt of that. It's clear now that the Prime Minister is much more interested in getting involved in the Liberal leadership than he is in good policy.
"He's enjoyed mudslinging, but he hasn't really done anything to advance the case."
