Harper just now on CBC saying he's taking plane to Cyprus to pick up
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 10:02 AM by glarius
Canadians needing help to get home. He is in Paris right now and the phony bastard must be worried about the anger towards him and the government because of the slowness of the response. He said he is taking the Canadian Forces plane stripped of all but necessary personnel, to make more room, and going there to pick up Canadians. I guess that means he considers himself and his wife necessary personnel. What a dumb stunt for a photo-op!...Who does he think he's fooling?

1. Oh.....geez!
This will be the equivalent of bush's "fake turkey" visit to Iraq, the obvious attempt to have a photo-op out of sheer desperation now that he knows he is losing votes due to his despicable words and actions.

2. Exactly......he looked rather harried to me.
I hope he gets booed when he lands. CNN is there and would probably show it if he does!...

4. They don't need help to get home from Cyprus
They need help to get home from Lebanon. If they are on Cyprus, they are already safe.

5. Shhhh, you aren't supposed to have figured that out....
It seems Harper thinks we are mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed crap that we will believe without question, lol.

6. Maybe he's got a real job there...
Perhaps his mission is to separate the dual citizens from the *real* Canadians.

<sarcasm off>

7. I saw on CTV about an hour ago that the Foreign Minister of Cyprus was
going to meet Harper's plane. (I think that's who they said...it was a government official anyway). As if they need the extra trouble of having to greet Harper. Why the hell wouldn't he just stay away and let the plane go there without him and his wife...He'll just be in the way. The man has no sensibility whatsoever....

8. And pass up a photo op?
Speaking of photo ops, I know that I sound heartless and cruel, but Laureen crying over her great-uncle who died in 1917 seemed like an act to me. I mean, it was 90 years ago.

to be so overwhelmed with emotion so easily. The two of them just seem to be off at least a little bit whenever they try to portray themselves as just folks. They just can't pull it off.

10. Who does he think he's fooling, indeed.
How transparent can he be? It is nothing but a photo-op, plain and simple.
Disgusting.

11. This is really making me angry, the more I think about it.
Harper took his wife, his official photographer, and members of his "communication staff" to Cyprus for this. If he really wanted to do the right thing in order to rescue the maximum number of people, he and his wife and his entourage should have hopped commercial flights home and sent the aircraft to Cyprus with space for at least five additional stranded Canadians.

12. Pshaw, are you intimating our great leader made sure that we would
have photos and appropriate text extolling his bravery and Alberta cowboy thirst for action by taking his official photographer and his communication staff, not to mention his wife for....gasp..purely PR purposes???? You must be anti-Canadian!!!!!

(channeling the worst of the steve supporters, lol, who do seem to parrot the same kind of crap as the bushbots down south)

Oops, the channeling thing is contagious!

Edit to add: but thanks for making me laugh when I was getting so angry that I wanted to ... er, well, I'd better not say or CSIS will be dropping in for a visit.

A little humour injected at an appropriate moment to take the edge off of anger is definitely a good thing. Thanks, again.

Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 09:23 PM by glarius
I just heard this about the photographer on CBC!
This is the most blatant bullshit photo-op I've ever heard of. It's DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Without Harper, his wife and official photographer there would be room for 3 more people on the plane!

16. Add to that, 3 of his communication team...
but, feel relieved, they are there only to serve coffee, etc, to the evacuees!

Ditto on the DISGUSTING!

18. Yep, pretty pathetic all right.
See #11. The whole thing is just WRONG.

They should have all taken commercial flights home and sent the aircraft with minimum crew to make room for the maximum number of stranded citizens.

Absolutely agreed on DISGUSTING.

20. The only place I heard about the photographer was CBC...You can bet
CTV and Global won't bring it up. They'll play it like Harper is such a humanitarian for doing this thoughtful thing.
