France offers Canada evacuation help
PARIS (AP) — French president Jacques Chirac on Thursday offered a helping hand to Canada — which has up to 50,000 citizens in Lebanon — to evacuate the country under siege.

“(Chirac) was very generous and spontaneously expressed the wish that we collaborate and, if the need is there, if possible, he offered French collaboratioon so that we can move people out,” said Quebec Prime Minister Jean Charest, after a meeting with Chirac.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a stopover in Cyprus following his visit earlier this week to France, and was to pick up 120 evacuees from Lebanon and flying them home.

1. I'm sure the US government offered to help our northern neighbors...

...until they found out we'd charge 'em and they told us to, "Fuck off, you hosers."

It just boggles the mind how impotent our ability to deal with large-scale disasters has become....

2. I don't think it's so much a problem of
ability, as it is a problem of political interest, or lack thereof.

3. Whoops. An editor at the Star needs more coffee.
Or did something big happen in Quebec while I've been paying more attention to Lebanon?

:)

6. Thank you so much. It was the 3rd one I saw before and it really
blew me away. When was the last time a citizen ever looked at a member of any gouvernment with such confidence. Any suggestions on how I could save it?

7. What you need to do is save it to your harddrive, I save them in "my
Pictures", you do that by right clicking on the picture you want to save, on the drop down menu, click on "save as...", save it as a jpeg. If you want to save it to post it at a later date on a site like this, you need a site that you can put it on, photobucket.com is good and it is free, then, when you want to post it, you just highlight the url address attached to the picture at photobucket, copy it and then paste it in your post. It should show up as the picture.

I hope I didn't miss any steps, if so, I hope others will add to this as needed.
