Molson-Coors.
So whaddya think about this Coors-buying-Molson story?
I think it'll be a blow to this country, sadly.

If it does indeed go through, Paul Martin needs to step in and nationalize this country's beer industry!

..or, I'll just buy Moosehead and Sleemans, etc, from then on. No use crying about losing Molson and Labatt, when the rest of everything everywhere is turning American (or Belgian, in the case of Labatt, lol) anyway.

2. Just what we need-- more shit beer.
I heard the Molson guy will be running the show, giving the Coors guy time to run for Governor.

Depressing, no?

3. I don't care either way
I stopped buying Molson's products long ago.
Sleeman or Upper Canada I'd care about.

4. One shit beer + one shit beer = a REALLY shitty beer
"I WAS CANADIAN!"

We'll see how that ad campaign goes over now, this better not be the start of the suckification of Canadian Lager....not that molson didn't always suck, but we have a reputation to uphold.

5. Not a beer drinker here, wine only, so the actual beer part doesn't...
bother me but it is sad to see a Canadian-owned family business be taken over by foreign interests, not happy with that aspect.

9. Molson hasn't had a good beer
since Molson Golson. There's a wide range of delightful beers made here, though.

11. I always love the Brador
When we go to Quebec we always used to bring back 2 cases. Then we found the UniBru (sp?) can't remember how to spell it) -- we would then bring home on Brador and one Maudite. Now I guess we will just get 2 Maudites.

14. UniBroue
UniBroue is great beer, they were recently bought by Sleemans. In addition to Maudite, they have other great beers. Blanche De Chambly, is one of them. It is a white beer with great taste; like most white beers it has a slight citrusy taste. It is very similar to Hoegarrden. Also Fin du Monde is a great Abbey beer, i think the only one outside of Belgium made. Unfortunately I live in Manitoba and have access to only the above mentioned three beers. But What I hear from my friends and famiy in Quebec that all of their beers are high quality. I feel that they are most likely the best beers brewed in Canada. Also they have high protein contents because they still have the les in the bottle; les is the left over yeast from brewing. Also Unibroue has some of the few beers that actually improve with age.

Donovan is the current CEO of Unibroue and a regular writer for Canadian Beer Magazine and Beer Weekly

Just kidding but I like my beer!

12. I guess I will just reach for Labatt's.
I think that it's a tragedy that Molson would stoop so low to merge with the beer that "ADOLF" Coors created. :puke:

What does Joe Canadian have to say about this?

13. There's been plenty of Molson ego to go around
It takes your breath away listening to Dan O'Neill, CEO of Molson Inc., trashing Ian Molson's mooted determination to thwart the planned merger of the Canadian brewer with Adolph Coors Co., announced on Thursday.

"You step back and say, `What's right for the Canadian employees?'" O'Neill told The Globe and Mail. "Should Canadian employees be put through something like this just because of egos ... And because one individual thinks he should be chairman and goes and does this, I think that's wrong."

That, as it happens, holds yet another downside. Coors is a tax-dodger of some renown, having by clever accounting manoeuvres reduced its federal tax payable to a mere $8 million (U.S.) from $74 million three years ago. Colorado being a swing state, Coors chairman Peter Coors being a U.S. Senate hopeful this fall, and the Kerry-Edwards ticket being cleverly opportunistic, investors in a Molson Coors are pretty certain to see their firm come in for more than its share of vilification on the presidential campaign trail this fall.

After all, investors in the politically agnostic Molson Inc. are being made to join hands with one of the United States' most politically charged firms, a founder of the Heritage Foundation and zealous benefactor of other right-wing think tanks. Hence the longstanding boycott of the firm by organized labour in the United States, directed at a firm where beer has long been almost secondary to the millions of dollars it has donated to groups opposing welfare, environmental protection reforms, affirmative action and civil-rights enforcement.

15. Boycott Molson right along with that right wing assh*le Coors
Coors has been taking a beating in sales lately, and they're probably looking for a customer base that doesn't know they're nazis. Don't let them get away with it! BOYCOTT MOLSON!!!!!!

16. What about Labatt?
Did they do something I should know about? My mom drinks it, do we need to boycott it.

At our curling club we have coors on tap - so no beer for me during curling. I'm on the board and will push for a change.
