Cities and towns should have a voice in talks between Ottawa and the provinces on solving the fiscal imbalance, says Quebec's Union of Municipalities (UMQ).

The only way a solution to the fiscal imbalance will work in the long run is to have cities and municipalities involved in the process, the union said Thursday.

"Now at the provincial and federal level, the désequilibre fiscal is a discussion, and the municipalities have to be included," said Jean Perrault, mayor of Sherbrooke and UMQ president.
