OTTAWA — Maher Arar says he's disappointed he still doesn't have an official apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a week after a public inquiry cleared his name of any suspicions of terrorist ties.
"I expected the prime minister to immediately accept Justice (Dennis) O'Connor's findings when it comes to my exoneration," Arar said Sunday on CTV's Question Period.
But a senior Conservative cabinet member, Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon, tempered that action by saying later that he and other Tory ministers voted on the motion as individuals and weren't necessarily speaking for the government.
Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day — who also refused to discuss the case after the memorial service Sunday — said last week Zaccardelli had assured him the Mounties were already at work to implement the internal reforms recommended by O'Connor.
