General frets about home front
It is the Canadian public and not the Taliban that is the greatest threat to peace and prosperity in Afghanistan, Canada's top military man on the ground told the Star.

1. Geez, that is one huge pile of bullshit condensed into one article
It is merely another way of saying "You are with us or with the terra-ists" ala bush. I am SO sick of hearing this fallacy whether from bush, harper or NATO.

To compare the crap going on in Afghanistan to WWI or WWII is pathetic, imo. There is NO correlation.

The one positive in this article is not it's contents but, rather, that this General felt the need to be so defensive, it means, imo, that the message from Canadians is hitting home and that is scaring the crap out of the neocon government we now have in place.

2. Certainly
Seems strange. Even the article pointed out that it was a political speech.

Perhaps they don't like what our GG brought up at her dinner.

6. He also used the Bushian meme
"the damage that the Taliban are doing to our troops just proves how desperate they are" (paraphrasing). It's bizzarro logic.

3. I'm disappointed by the first paragraph of the article.
It is the Canadian public and not the Taliban that is the greatest threat to peace and prosperity in Afghanistan, Canada's top military man on the ground told the Star.

I was ready to get all snarky and say that if Gen. Fraser really feels that way, then maybe he's pointing his guns at the wrong targets. But I'm not seeing enough in the article to clearly support that he actually says the Canadian public is a bigger threat to peace and prosperity in Afghanistan than the Taliban is.

4. Well
The whole article is at the site.

The article that is referenced from the previous days publication is:

The story of C Company

So that is all there is.

5. Good article, thanks for the link
I assumed this would be a political disaster, but the scale of the military disaster is impressive too.

7. Another politicized general mouths off
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 07:31 AM by Bragi
I think our generals should focus more on military issues -- maybe they could find out why our troops are getting killed doing reckless PR stunts like handing out candy on streets -- and leave the propaganda campaign to Harper and Bush.
