Zaccardelli must resign — or be fired
Accountability is on life-support here, stabbed in the back by the cavalry that rode out of the West to its rescue.

If possible, other questions are even more troubling. Is the current government so beholden to Zaccardelli for the unusual, arguably pivotal, RCMP intervention in the last election that it's willing to blink at incompetence — or worse?

If true, that would confirm a Third-World relationship between the ruling party and the federal police.

Having benefited politically from the very public, and now disturbingly private, RCMP investigation into leaks around the Liberal income trust decision, Conservatives are protecting a commissioner who should either resign or be fired.

1. Yep, that election time "budget leak investigation" looms large
I still haven't heard anything about the Conservative budget leak last week, where bond traders had a few hours to make some dough (this was reported in my Canwest paper, but not the Globe).

It all looks pretty suspicious.

2. Good point...
Funny how we don't hear much about:

Tories violated Elections Act, watchdog tells committee

OTTAWA — Chief Electoral Officer Jean-Pierre Kingsley repudiated Tuesday all the arguments Conservatives have used to justify their party’s failure to disclose up to $1.7 million in donations.

The independent elections watchdog, who is still investigating the matter, would not say outright that the governing party broke the law.

But during testimony before the Senate’s legal and constitutional affairs committee, Kingsley left little doubt that the Tories violated the Canada Elections Act when they failed to report delegate fees to the party’s 2005 policy convention as political donations.

CH-Halifax

Wonder how that investigation is going... :eyes:

3. This is an excellent editorial. The observations that Tories
are beholding to the RCMP and it is a relationship best described as one found in the 3rd World are chilling and right on the mark.
