... Conrad Black ain't Canadian. There'd have been no contest, otherwise.

I waited and waited and waited (yeah, ugly page design, tell me about it ... and after I thought I had it about half loaded, and I'm on high-speed, it blipped and started all over again), and finally I found that my own preconceived choice wasn't there.

The Mulroney kid. I swear I've stopped watching CTV altogether because of him. Is there nothing in this world that being a rich kid won't get you? Is there no handicap that being a rich kid can't overcome -- even being Brian Mulroney's kid??

Of course, I'm sure nobody outside Canada has ever heard of him, so I suppose that's why he doesn't qualify for "most embarrassing". Just annoying hell out of your own family doesn't embarrass anybody in front of the neighbours.

Now the same could probably have been said about James Keegstra, except that he became the subject of a made-for-TV movie in the US. Starring Raquel Welch as the 'Murrican trailer-trash mawm who stood up to him (obviously, a made-for-US-TV movie isn't going to be set someplace the viewing folks haven't heard of, like Canada). So he's kinda the embarrassing uncle that nobody knows you're related to, as long as you keep your mouth shut.

Actually, the same could be said of a large number of the contestants. You can't really be embarrassed by somebody if you mentioned them to the neighbours and they said "who?"

Actually, it can be said of almost all of them. Even David Frum, who has inexplicably been twitching and grunting his way across my TV screen hourly for the last few weeks, never really got himself known outside the pages of the National Review in the US, and hey, to know him is to love him, there, so no point in being embarrassed.

So sigh, yes. Céline Dion.
