Shifting To The Right
Article 1

Bridging the gap on Afghan role

Canadian troops patrolled dusty Kandahar yesterday, buying time for President Hamid Karzai's elected government to rebuild the nation after Soviet occupation, civil war, Taliban misrule and terror.

Article 2

Use Castro's exit to help out Cuba

What a waste.

Comment

Article 1
An editorial that looks only at the toing and froing of the politics. Nothing about the reasons that we should be fighting a war, where there was no aggressive action by a country to any other country. Nothing about the warlords. Nothing about US ability to fight a war against an enemy if they were a real enemy.

Article 2
Starts out strongly and then dissipates. No mention about what happens once democracy, real and true democracy returns, such as in Haiti. Objective and logic are correct but leaves out the facts and consequences.

Summary - Crystal Ball Time
Looks like our Newspaper wants to move to the right of centre. Seems like the NDP has been written off and the Liberals don't count anymore.
Could it be that The Globe is offering more hard facts and research, leaving this paper looking for a place? Looking to make the bottom line?

Rahaf Harfoush
Community Editorial Board

As a generally healthy person, I never thought the reports of a looming doctor shortage would ever have an impact on my life. Then I caught the mother of all sinus infections.

...

This is not a problem that will go away by itself. The symptoms are there for us to see. I wonder how bad things will have to get before we decide to do something about it.

Rahaf Harfoush, a recent university graduate who works for a research firm, is a former member of the Star's Community Editorial Board.
