Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan

A Canadian soldier was killed on Sunday after his armoured vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan, a military official said.

The soldier was in a supply convoy in the Panjwaii district, 45 kilometres west of Kandahar, said Brig.-Gen. Guy Laroche.

He said the soldier was immediately taken from the scene by helicopter, but later succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical unit at Kandahar Air Field.
