1. For me, it's not going well...
We're in need of a new scientific study: "SAD brought on by lack of hockey".

And, at least here in Vancouver, there's no snow on the local mountains yet, so I can't take out my frustrations by shredding up the slopes (with all it's "apres slopes" delights, ie. beer, bud and babes).

I need professional help. And don't just say "Have a Blue". Without hockey, it's just amber-tinted liquid.

2. Couldn't care less...

Played hockey my whole life...what they are doing to the fans is despicable. It's already vastly overpriced to see a game, especially in Toronto. Let's say they settle their differences - do you think the fan will see a price reduction in tickets? No way, only more excuses to raise prices. Now they will have more ammo to sucker in cities and government for more tax relief, subsidies, new arenas, etc.
The NHL should go belly-up and restart with 21 teams again. That was real hockey. Watching Classic sports and seeing those games from the 80's brings a tear to my eyes...
Maybe I do care a little...

3. I agree 100% with everything you say...
And we'll find out soon enough how it all plays out, but the issues to which you're referring belong in another thread entirely.

The question posed on THIS thread was "...how are you hosers coping with the lack of NHL hockey...", and I kept it on topic. The game is part of my winter, and most certainly part of my spring.

I would LOVE to see a reduction in ticket prices, but over the years this has been my take on the matter:

To me, attending an NHL game is fucking ROCK AND ROLL, and the price of a game (with beer, snacks, etc.) is about the same a seeing a band like U2 (or equivalent). I can count on one hand the number of rock bands that play in the same arena that are WORTHY of my 60-80 bucks (U2 being one of them), and my budget allows me to see them. As well, my budget allows about six reg. season games a year. For me, it balances out, and I'm a happy boy.

But again, I agree with everything you said in your post. In fact, if ticket prices were lowered it would allow me to see more games per year, but I'd still see about the same amount of "U2"-level shows worthy of my hard-earned cash.

4.  Save the preaching...

Ok, it's early, I'm still half asleep at my desk but...

*"And we'll find out soon enough how it all plays out, but the issues to which you're referring belong in another thread entirely."*

Question asked was 'how are you coping?". I answered that with "I couldn't care less" and then backed up the reasons I feel that way.

*"The question posed on THIS thread was "...how are you hosers coping with the lack of NHL hockey...", and I kept it on topic. The game is part of my winter, and most certainly part of my spring."*

What? I didn't keep it on topic? And you felt the ovewhelming urge to capitalize THIS and to point out "and I kept it on topic"?
Childish, very immature. Find some real issues to show your 'holier than thou', 'look at me' attitude.

13. Go back to bed, Sunshine.
And while you're at it, work up a dream and HUMP it. (upper case, in honour of your fave solo activity.)

Just reviewed all ten of your posts. Shouldn't you get back over to Free Republic? I hear that's where all the lonely, bitter wankers go. You'll feel right at home.

21. I liked my flamefest better
"Just reviewed all ten of your posts."

So did I. And you know what I noticed? SixStrings made the very common newbie mistake: in every case, "replied" to the last post in the thread, instead of to the opening post, although in each case the reply was obviously intended to be a response to the opening post.

And that's pretty obviously what happened in this thread, too. There was only one post in the thread after the opening post, and the "reply" link for *that* post was inadvertently clicked. It's easily done, particularly when a thread has not yet reached 20 posts, and that "reply" link is just sitting there at the bottom of the series on the screen. I've done it myself.

When I get a "reply" to one of my posts that doesn't seem to be related to what I said, that's the first thing I check. Does it make more sense as a reply to the opening post?

This one did. And in SixStrings' second post, it was even explained that way:

Question asked was 'how are you coping?". I answered that with "I couldn't care less" and then backed up the reasons I feel that way.
I see grounds for a bit of advice about posting protocol, to avoid confusion in everyone's best interests, but I'm not seeing anything to justify an accusation of freeperism at this point. I'm also thinking we should observe the rules on that point in this forum, left to our own devices though we seem to be.

Perhaps we can chalk this one up to an unfortunate misunderstanding and shake hands all round.

22. RE: "I liked my flamefest better"
a) Point well taken; good observation...
b) It's only hockey...
c) Misunderstanding aside, my failure to notice didn't warrant the pointedness of the response...
d) When I meet volatile types at a bar, I sit as far away as possible...
e) I'm staying at the other side of the bar in this case...
d) Did I mention it was only hockey? I actually tried to delete it because I could really care less. (edit time expired).

26. RE: "I liked my flamefest better

Oops. Sorry. Still getting the hang of this. Guess I should of replied to the original post - is that what everyone's saying?
Am I really a Freeper for that post? A Canadian Freeper? Do people really make these assumptions based on what's posted on an internet message board? You guys felt the urge to go through 'all 10 of my posts'? Well, what else am I? C'mon, it's started with the Freeper allegation, what else you got after reading my posts?
Sorry if I offended anyone, but these allegations really piss me off. We can all post stupid, useless threads like those that appear in the Lounge. Is that the kind of credibiltiy you're looking for? 1000+ posts of utter nonsense? Again, sorry.

27. speaking only for myself
I took a very quick glance at most of your other posts, precisely to get confirmation (or not) of my hypothesis that you had made the common error of replying to the wrong post, and along the way to see whether there was really any indication of freeperism. (A Canadian freeper might better be called a freedumber, if I may be the first to coin a moniker for denizens of freedominion -- except that there have certainly been USAmerican trolls masquerading as Canadians in the past.) I confirmed my hypothesis, and did not find such indication, and don't recall a single other thing you said.

So when you say "people" and "you guys" and go on to get stroppy, you're maybe the one who shouldn't be making generalizations. One person was peeved, that's all.

I suspect that your interlocutor was rattled by a post, in response to his/her post, headed "I couldn't care less". It made sense as a reply to the original question; it looked rude as a reply to the other person's reply to it.

Just a misunderstanding, as far as I could see. I always hate to see a misunderstanding disrupt something potentially sensible, even between people who actually do disagree, or people I don't like either of, when that happens. (And because I spend my days deciphering sometimes incomprehensible writing, I tend to be able to spot such problems in written exchanges.) But oh well, so much for shaking hands all round.

6. very nicely, thank you
Although it's just as well that the Grey Cup noise is also over with for a while.

Movies to watch in the great Saturday night primetime TV wasteland.
http://www.cbc.ca/television/saturday.html
With ... Don McLean hosting??
http://www.cbc.ca/television/host_maclean.html
He must have a good union/contract. Well, at least we aren't getting movie reviews by Don Cherry.

I know that the CBC depends heavily on NHL revenues, and I rely heavily on the CBC, so I don't begrudge hockey watchers their Saturday nights. But since I'm not responsible for the present spot of bother and can't do anything about it, I'll just gloat and enjoy the ride. ;)

*R*on M*a*cLean. I'd meant to flick back to check whether there was an "a" in the "Mac" but forgot (and ignored the url in front of my face in my post). Had I done it, I might have noticed that I was talking about the American Pie guy instead of the Canadian hockey guy.

Actually, you see, it was just a bit of hoked up self-serving evidence to support my claim to being a hockey non-fan.

10. you mean ...
you believed me??

Hell, this is easy ... next time I inadvertently/carelessly say something completely stupid, I'll just pretend that I had an obscure but very good reason for it!

Problem is, I actually do write genuinely and completely stupid things, actually intending to be sarcastic, to make a point, quite frequently. I'll just have to resurrect that tongue-in-cheek stupidfacesmileything so we can tell when I'm not just being stupid.

;^)

But ... perhaps if I attach it to your post, I'll find you didn't believe me at all ... ;)

14. Re
I come from a hockey hotbed...Peterborough On.

The Citizens of Peterborough are starting to get edgy...You must understand that hockey just isnt a game its a part of life, Every Saturday night during the Winter is spent watching hockey and every night during playoffs you are on the couch with a group of friends watching your fav. team, in my case Montreal, in most of my friends cases the leafs.

I am a die hard fan to the bone (i help run a large hockey community at http://www.metroboards.com and right now the feeling amongst fans is that this will never end. It looks like worst case scenario will be the government stepping in or replacement players.

The owners want to create a league that is healthy and will grow, the league is losing hundreds of Millions each season and the main reason is 75% of the revenue goes to player salaries, How can a star player like Jaromir Jagr deserve 11 Million a season when the NHL can't even get a TV deal in the USA. NFL salaries only make up about 55% of their revenue, and they have 4 large networks constantly fighting for TV rights.

The players will not back down, they want their large paychecks and free agency. Right now to "stay in shape" they are going to europe however they are taking away the jobs of hundreds of europeans who depend on their paychecks to make a living. NHLers are still receiving $100,000 a MONTH while being locked out.

It makes me sick, and I truly disappointed that we have gotten to this point.

25. good riddance
Good riddance to the NHL, I hope it never comes back.

I'm as hockey loving a Canadian as they come. Leafs fandom is generations old tradition in my family. But with the state of things these days the NHL can go to hell for all I care.

Ever since the Jets and Nordiques went to the US I've been a proponent of sending ALL the Canadian teams to southern US cities. Hell with it, send the Habs to Kansas City, send the Leafs to Huston.

Lets start again in Canada with a new league of our own. I believe the NHL will fail without the participation of native Canadian cities.

Other than that, I go to OHL games.
