AnyoneButHarper.ca Launches
A new election web site has launched with the simple and self-explanatory title Anyonebutharper.ca it contains information on why to vote against Stephen Harper, how to vote strategically in order to beat Stephen Harper (especially important now that Jack Layton has expressed interest in a coalition government with the Liberals), links to like minded sites and some amazing videos. (Full Disclosure: I've been working with the Anyone But Harper folks - many more videos are coming!)

1. I like this idea.
:bounce: This is even better than vote-swapping. I normally vote NDP, but I'm voting strategically this time around. (I'm in Ralph Goodale's riding.) My big fear is about Canadian sovereignty. If Harper gets a majority, he'll sell us out to the Americans even quicker than Mulroney did. If we have a Harper majority administration in Canada and a McCain administration in the U.S., we're really gonna be screwed.

Good luck with the campaign.

2. Thanks Offog
Hopefully this, combined with the vote swap groups will at least cost the Conservatives a majority.

3. Amen to that, justinsb.
Now I have a suggestion for another discussion thread, and I don't know what to do to start one.

Did you catch the Chris Reid story? He was the Tory candidate for Toronto Centre until remarks from his blog became public. He was commenting on the tragedy that took place this summer in Manitoba on a Greyhound bus, when a man killed and beheaded Tim McLean. Reid said "Passengers and the bus driver stood by and watched another person being butchered and couldn't muster up any courage or self-sacrifice to intervene. This is where socialism as (sic) gotten us folks, a castrated effeminate population."

These comments are insensitive toward McLean's friends and family, and to the bus passengers who witnessed the murder. The remarks are also insulting in other ways. They imply that socialists are wimps, that women are weak and cowardly, and that anything feminine is automatically inferior. Hey Chris, does the term "gender gap" mean anything to you? Finally, Reid's comments insult men by implying that you're not a "real man" unless you're Rambo.

What really burns me is that Reid hasn't apologized, or shown any sign of remorse or regret. He told CTV news that "hindsight is always 2020, and I will say I would have chosen my words more carefully." He also said "we're all individuals and we're entitled to have perspectives on how we see things."

It would be interesting to see what people have to say about this issue.
