Canada rolls out the unwelcome mat for * (pics inside)
I have never seen a crowd so large in Ottawa (probably 50,000+), nor have I ever seen so many police in riot gear. Look for a big sale sale on slightly used riot gear next week on E-Bay. It is highly unlikey we will ver need it again unless * plans a return visit.

The protest was a very well organized ... people of all ages, races and spectrums of life.

Nevertheless, it will cost Canadians in excess of $5,000,000 to accommodate *. If * had simply stayed at home and sent a fax, that would be $5M more that we could have contributed to the Iraqis.

I'd have had a very witty and cutting placard, and he would have cried.

11. WoW...this pic is fantastic! WHEN DO OUR WAR PROTESTS
START?????????????????????????????????????????

I see NOTHING here, anywhere, that talks about organizing war protests.

Fercrying out loud, Iraq is falling apart. Our soldiers faces are being blown off. We suspect our fly boys are using NAPALM on the Iraqi.

We MUST get our shit together here and hit the streets. Where are the anti-war musicians???
FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, WERE ARE THE RALLIES?????

10. They would've thrown orange nets on us in the USA.
Round us all up and take us to jail. Like when we protested at the repuke convention.

14. Bush thanks Canadians three years after the fact.....
for aid after 9/11.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041201/ap_on_re_ca/bush

I figure it was all for the same event, so I put it under here.

The story also talks about how the US is still trying to get Canada to agree to their missle program. Not trying to butt in, but I think the main pressure should be keeping Martin from agreeing to that. That's why Bush is doing so much sucking up right now.

You all might not think it's possible, but it is possible. Some countries rejected Bush's nuke plans. Now, the Republican dominated congress has officially shot down Bush's plan for more nukes. They say it's all up to the Americans. However, we spent more time trying to stop the wars themselves than we did trying stop nukes. They haven't listened to much of what we have to say. By contrast, too many countries didn't like the nuke idea. Perhaps it's what powerful leaders think that matters to Congress. I don't know.

No offense, but your crowd looks like the American crowd right after the Iraqi war was officially over. Iraq had became a "liberated country", and the protesters against the war went from hundreds of thousands to about twelve thousand (for that one time as far as I know).

Because of the smaller crowd, they sent more cops than we ever had for our protests of hundreds of thousands. These cops tried to scatter us, and get violent. You won't hear that on the news. This is just my personal account of it. Anyway, that situation looks a little bit like the same thing (only you all weren't marching). To have that many cops facing the people confined to what we call the cages looks scary. Maybe I'm getting the wrong idea here.

15. 100's is what Wisconsin Public Radio said.
On Kathleen Dunn's program this morning she kept saying that there were hundreds that turned out to protest. The guest said that many of those were there in support of bush.

You guys are such lairs - snark!

18. Bullshit--I was THERE!
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 12:29 PM by Hand
There were easily 5000 demonstrators. We filled Barrington Street for a couple of blocks. It was noisy but orderly. The march made it all the way to directly in front of Pier 21. (A slight error; it was supposed to stop a block away, but people just kept going.)

When the marchers were assembling at the Grand Parade this morning, a friend of mine asked a policemen how may people he thought there were. The cop said, "Well, I hope we get ten times more than this--that would get the message across!"
:toast:

ON EDIT: This is Halifax I'm talking about, not Ottawa.

Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 03:04 PM by goddess40
they even try to steal the ones that are there and put them on their side!

The sicking thing about WPR reporting this lie is that this used to be our liberal outlet for news.

Edit: By the way, thanks for being there!!

20. Ottawa Crowd Size (Conservative Estimate) 40,000 ++

The area in one the picture below ...(a snap of the "centre" crowd {left and right side are cut off}) covers minimally 500 * 700 feet. If each person occupies 3 feet squared (very generous), then 500*700/9 = 38,888 people.

A more realistic set of dimensions: 700 x 1000 feet... thus ~ 80,000 protesters.

Photo from ottawa.IndyMedia.org

I'll will pace-out the perimeter the next time I'm on the Hill just to verify my estimate.
