2. She is seriously in need of psychiatric help....
long term help. She has all the characteristics of a major serial killer, imo, looking at her drawings and her comments. Scary young woman, imo.

5. I Searched
For the drawings on the net and learned that they were not available. Found one postage size picture on a CTV site that was not quite legible.

Have some mercy for those that don't live in lotus land.

8. I Thought
That he was referring to the drawings that she drew which are said to exhibit quite a negative outlook on things.
It was just my assumption. I also understood that the court had said that they couldn't be published. But I am going by memory on that.

http://www.vancouvertelevision.com/topnews.jsp?id=/news/stories/2005/05/news-20050527-02.htm

Found the reference. May have since been released.

9. aha
I did know who she was (or at least, what story she was connected with, once I stopped and thought a moment), just not that there'd been some news about drawings she did.

The minutiae of criminal trials can sometimes be interesting, i.e. a matter of either idle or serious curiosity. And the incident in which Reena Virk died is particularly appalling, for sure. But I don't tend to follow the minutiae unless there's something instructive about them. Michael Jackson. Not instructive.

Here are some lotus land minutiae I picked up from the site you gave:
"Current Vancouver Conditions: Broken Clouds, 16C"

Yeesh. Here in Ontario, I've got the broken clouds, but about 10 more degrees. It's biliously hot here. Oh, yeeeesh. It's actually 30, with 52% humidity and south winds, and apparently it feels like 37. (37C = 98.6F, body temp.) Wonderful. And a falling barometer, so my neck is going to start feeling like it's going to explode ... and it is undoubtedly going to rain some more before the day's out ...

It's the first week of June, and its 30?? (And over 28 for the 4 preceding days.) Give me strength. And I guess give me an air conditioner for my office; this may be the year I decide to break down and move the furniture and piles of crap so I can get at the window to install one.

I start to think of going south for the summer ... somewhere to escape this freaking humidity. Any Albertans around? Is it a dry heat there too?

7. eckchewly

I haven't followed many top news stories in the last week or so. I was still catching up on the previous Saturday's papers (Star, Globe, local) when this Saturday's arrived on the couch. Still never did read last Saturday's Doonesbury, and this morning was paper recycle day.

So okay, I shouldn't be hanging around in places where people are discussing the top news stories ...

11. btw

Isn't that effete upper Canadians?

My long ago boyfriend, who was reared in BC and educated in NS, maintained that he had never heard of bird watching before moving to southern Ontario. Well, I'd never met anyone who had actually curled.

Took him to see Niagara Falls, and had to listen to him all the way: this won't be a real waterfall, out there in BC we have real waterfalls, this will be some effete eastern Canadian notion of a waterfall ... and then, as we made our way in the mist, walking the two blocks from where I'd parked to the falls (that we couldn't see for the mist), and the thunderous roar got louder and closer, he was reduced to mumbling things like "oh my" ...

13. hey, don't look at me!

He was born and bred right there in lotus land. With a degree in history from Dalhousie, and at the time a manager in a Canadian book store chain. I guess somebody just skipped central Canadian geography along the way. ;)

In some fairness, I think he was approaching the subject from the standpoint of the height of the things, when it's the massive quantity that gives Niagara its might, and that's what hadn't penetrated his consciousness before he actually experienced it. It really is hard to conceive of the awesomeness of that fall of water if you haven't seen and heard it up close.

14. "manager in a Canadian book store chain. "
Too bad he didn't stumble across a Niagra falls coffee table while there.

I can't think of anything out here even close to the falls... height or otherwise.

15. well there ya go

I can't think of anything out here even close to the falls... height or otherwise.

You see: lotus landers just don't know nuttin.

http://www.okanagan.worldweb.com/SightsAttractions/Waterfalls/

Canada's fourth largest waterfalls, Helmcken falls are found within Wells Grey Provincial Park. Spilling water from a height of 141 metres (463 feet), the falls are dramatic.
Sources differ on Niagara's exact height (and the exact height, and even ranking, of the others: see the list below), but the Horseshoe (Canadian) Falls are mainly described as around 53 m / 173 ft high. Helmcken is over 2.5 times as high.

http://atlas.gc.ca/site/english/learningresources/facts/supergeneral.html

Della Falls
The highest waterfall in Canada is Della Falls, British Columbia, 440 metres high.
That's over 8 times higher than Niagara.

http://atlas.gc.ca/site/english/learningresources/facts/waterfalls.html

Selected Waterfalls in Canada

Name of Waterfall -- Vertical Drop (metres) -- Location

Della Falls -- 440 -- Della Lake, BC
Takakkaw Falls -- 254 -- Daly Glacier, BC
Hunlen Falls -- 253 -- Atnarko River, BC
Panther Falls -- 183 -- Nigel Creek, AB
Helmcken Falls -- 137 -- Murtle River, BC
Bridal Veil Falls -- 122 -- Bridal Creek, BC
Virginia Falls -- 90 -- South Nahanni River, NT
Chute Montmorency -- 84 -- Rivière Montmorency, QC
Twin Falls -- 80 -- Yoho National Park, BC
Chute Ouiatchouan -- 79 -- Rivière Ouiatchouan, QC
Brandywine Falls -- 61 -- Brandywine Creek, BC
Niagara Falls (American) -- 59 -- (Niagara River, USA)
Niagara Falls (Horseshoe) -- 57 -- Niagara River, ON, USA
Seven waterfalls in BC are higher than Niagara, five of them by multiples. Eight of the eleven highest waterfalls in Canada that are higher than Niagara are in BC.

After all, we don't got mountains here in effete central Canada. ;)

16. Yeah, but none of those are nearly as impressive
I mean, Niagra is in a class it shares with only one or two other falls worldwide

18. I haven't seen any published pictures except for the small one
in the original article, there have been detailed descriptions of them in more than one paper. As of May 27th, the Court had delayed allowing them to be published until they decide whether the drawings are to be considered in her sentencing scheduled for July.
