Anyone dealing with MS in Alberta?
reprehensor and I are still looking into heading back up when our bills are paid (and that's occurring much quicker these days. Yay!).

Since I'm still getting used to dealing with this condition under the US health system, I'm learning more about how it works under the Albertan provincial health plan.

I contacted the MS Society in Calgary, and got some really valuable info from the lady there. I shouldn't have to deal with going through a regular family physician and getting referred to a neurologist; she thinks a phone call and the sending of records from my doc down here should suffice. And we may be eligible for the Albertan plan the day we arrive if we get all our paperwork submitted right away.

I'm curious about the obtaining of Betaseron and costs, etc under the provincial plan, MRIs, IVs, etc. If anyone is a US transplant and has done this, I could really use your input.

Thanks for any info, hosers.

1. Wow, you're actually going!
Good for you. :bounce: Things are kind of looking good for me to do that, too. Not to Alberta though. Hang in there kiddo, keep us informed.

2. Thanks sweetie.
It'll take a little while still (upwards of 15 months), and that's assuming I can get reprehensor to let me fill out the paperwork AND send it in.

I'm not immediately hopeful, but I'm hoping in the next 2 years or so we can start the process.

Will do!

5. Where are you thinking of going?
I'd like to get out too. It's kind of a toss-up between Canada and the UK at the moment. Leaning towards Canada though, Vancouver in particular.

FSC: Good for you! Moving to another country is a bit of a hassle but it will be worth it in the end.

12. Calgary.
reprehensor lived there for a few years, and all his family is up near Edmonton.

So Alberta is very close to my heart. Almost like being in Texas, but not! :P

Screaming Lord Byron is there too. I'm looking forward to drinks at the James Joyce when we get settled! (If it ever happens....)

Looks like we'll be up visiting next June for our niece's wedding. I'll post something ahead of time.

10. I don't suppose she's looking for a caterer?
Sorry, just trying to drum up a little extra biz. I do a great Ukrainian spread.

11. Hmmmm...probably not.
She's German on 2 sides and Metis thrown in, and the groom is French and something.

They're up near Edmonton. Aways to travel for a job!

We were considering it before, but the heat has just gotten too much (literally AND figuratively!)
