Three Canadian soldiers suffered minor injuries in what was a suspected suicide bombing in Kandahar. An Afghan child was killed, and a civilian seriously injured.
The Canadian soldiers were treated for superficial injuries, such as bruises, said Col. Steve Bowes, commander of the Canadian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

Defence Minister Bill Graham recently warned that the move by Canadian troops from the more stable capital of Kabul to Kandahar -- widely known as a hotbed of militant activity -- could boost the odds of Canadian deaths and injuries.

As well, a small special forces unit is operating in the area, hunting and killing Taliban and al Qaeda rebels.
