OK, fellow Canadians. Our turn to get active now.
After reading this, post your ideas. Because we aren't supposed to pull this fucking shit. I know we sometimes do, but we're fucking NOT SUPPOSED TO.

U.S. vet's extradition inflames supporters
BY GENE JOHNSON

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE -- A U.S. Army veteran who fled to Canada after he was accused of growing marijuana to help control chronic pain was taken from a hospital by Canadian authorities, driven to the U.S. border with a catheter still attached, and turned over to U.S. officials -- who provided him with no medical treatment for five days, his lawyer said.

Steven William Tuck, 38, was still fitted with the urinary catheter when he shuffled into U.S. District Court for a detention hearing Wednesday, said his lawyer, Douglas Hiatt.

<snip>

"The guy comes into the jail with a catheter sticking out the end of his (penis), you'd think they'd do something about it!" Hiatt said, launching into a profanity-laced tirade after the hearing. "This is totally inhumane. He's been tortured for days for no reason."

<snip>

Tuck is a veteran who said he suffered debilitating injuries in the late 1980s, when his parachute failed to open during a jump. He spent a year at Walter Reed Army Medical Center undergoing surgeries to fuse discs in his back, Hiatt said. Over the years, he has had more than a dozen surgeries, his friends said.

In 2001, he was living in McKinleyville, Calif., when his marijuana- growing operation was raided for the second time. He fled to British Columbia and sought asylum status, which recently was denied.

(Anyone know if this is in the Vancouver news?)

1. So What
Would one expect?

Why Are U.S. Drug Cops in Vancouver?

Despite slams from a Supreme Court judge and civil liberties advocates, America’s DEA calls B.C. home.

Strange but true: the American Secret Service in Vancouver is listed in the phonebook, but the Drug Enforcement Administration is not. This seems to be a measure of just how secretive the DEA is. They opened shop quietly in Vancouver last year, but the public has little idea of what they are doing—let alone that they are here—and the DEA would like to keep it that way.

This is not the first high profile instance!

If the US government has the right to exercise it's powers in Canada then one can only assume that it will exercise those powers. And the PM will mouth off, standing up for NAFTA rules as long as he has to win an election.

You gets what you pays for. Or if we aren't interested in making things an issue then it will not be an issue.

2. So help make it an issue.
I've just emailed my MP.

There must be more that you, I, and everyone else can do.

Other than also emailing the press (as if they don't get AP newsfeeds), I'm at a loss. So I'm asking for some suggestions.

3. Yea
Like my e-mail to John Williams.

All I can suggest is that we take one day at a time. And when we are told about the wolf at the door again, in the next election, well we vote or the one we want.

Sorry, can't offer more than that.

4. Well, let's all sleep on it.
If this is some slippery slope (and I think it is), we'll have to do some fast work sooner rather than later.

Thanks for emailing. I just emailed Vancouver's talk radio station with the story. Not holding out much hope, but since it's partly a Vancouver story, something might happen.

5. Sorry
I didn't e-mail. Was just saying that it wouldn't do much good if I would e-mail.

Like talking to a wall.

7. Ok, Canada, time to....
kick the DEA the hell out of Vancouver! Get tough, they have no business there. Let them set up shop just accross the border if they want, but not in Vancouver. This is sick!
