OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Paul Martin says he's willing to negotiate a softwood lumber agreement with the United States - after Washington returns $3.5 billion in contested duties.

You are half way there. Now stand up and at least get a token loony back. Why didn't you just listen to the boss in the beginning. Now everyone knows that you were just getting all emotional.

Ottawa ready to reopen softwood talks if U.S. provides sign of good faith

OTTAWA (CP) - With U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice bearing down on 24 Sussex Drive, Prime Minister Paul Martin opened a new front on the softwood lumber impasse under another barrage of tough rhetoric.

"For us to sit down and negotiate other elements . . . really requires an indication that the United States understands the importance of fulfilling the terms of NAFTA.

But that doesn't mean the money, collected from Canadian companies, must actually be returned before Canada enters into new negotiations.

Boy that didn't take long for him to back down further.

Now what other goodies do we have left in the bag besides water.

Well it has gone from five billion to three and a half billion. I suppose that we could pump that amount into Afghanistan and Iraq?

The guy is a screaming idiot! He's playing with fire and he doesn't realize it from his ivory tower.
