Is it ethical or even legal for the Conservatives to use Judge Gomery in
their political ads?...I've seen the ad a few times on TV, and I doubt very much that Judge Gomery gave them permission to use his picture and voice in their ads....The ad starts off with Martin saying, "the Liberal Party is not corrupt."....It goes on and toward the end they show a picture of Judge Gomery, with a voice, supposedly his, saying "an elaborate kick back scheme" and "a culture of entitlement."
I'm posting a link...click onto ENTITLEMENTS, on the top, left of the page and you can see the ad.

1. Good question! Seeing as he has yet to table his final report
one would think he should demand they pull the ad or, at the least, remove him from it. The other irony is the faux Cons started their ad campaign with an ad warning the Liberals would be putting out negative ads yet only the faux Cons are the ones going negative. Liars lying yet again, surprise, surprise.

2. All we have heard, from the Conservatives and the media alike, is
that the Liberals would be going negative....Everyone seemed to ignore the fact that from the beginning of the election campaign, Harper and his minions have never been before the cameras without uttering "corrupt Liberals" or "Martin and his criminal party" or words to that effect...Painting the whole party and the P.M. with the brush of corruption, even though it is only a few members from Quebec who were involved in the sponsorship scandal...The only media person I have heard point this out was Peter Mansbridge. When someone he was interviewing started in on "the Liberals will go negative" theme, he pointed out what Harper was saying about the P.M. at every opportunity.

3. Using sound bytes to tar all Liberals isn't ethical.
But that's how these guys work.

4. Only if your Liberal...
Just curious, what law are the Tories breaking by showing 'video' and 'people' speaking from a public forum?

It's in keeping with the style of their other ads--'fake' news forums and using the mainstream news as a emotive 'trigger'.

The real question--did the liberals really think this was a cakewalk and was the date of the election a really big factor for them in hindsight?
(4 quick weeks in 'nuthin' to do' February as opposed to nearly two months over the Christmas break--me thinks the Liberals knew they were sunk in November)

5. Yeh, like...

....the Conservatives see themselves outside of the "culture of entitlement".

HAHAHAHA!!!! Out here in the heartland, they made it their own.

7. Yep, Canadians need to be reminded of the mess Mulroney, the
last Con in power, left us in, we were very close to becoming the equivalent of a third world country with a MASSIVE debt. Mulroney is behind the scenes with Harper and that needs to be pointed out time and time again!

8. I heard someone on TV say that David Frum (Bush's ex speech writer) is
also an advisor....That needs to be pointed out too....

9. Very good point! Frum is the 'axis of evil' speech writer
and a neocon shill. The question about Frum being an advisor needs to be asked, that's for sure!

6. It's probably legal
But I doubt that it's ethical to use a headline about testimony that was thrown out by Gomery (the Globe & Mail headline shown in the TV ad).

And we're supposed to believe that this is the "honest" party? PUHLEEZE

10. At the risk of offending our genial hosts....

...Much more should be made of Harpers 'love' for all things American. After all his sucking-up to the * war, his lack of appreciation of the irony in the final shot STAND UP FOR CANADA, makes me think that, either his sense of irony doesn't measure up to Canadian standards(automatic disqualification) or....he is, in fact, an American neo-con in disguise.

11. Actually, though, his love is for all things of the American right-wing
persuasion as opposed to all things American. He favours only the philosophy of the neo-cons.

I have been missing it more than a few times lately, lol.
