My LTTE on Stephen Harper and the supposed "scare tactics" he suffers....
Stephen Harper voted in the House of Commons to participate in the US invasion of Iraq. He is on record two months before the war saying that Canada; in his judgment, will join the Iraq invasion "notwithstanding" our "neglect in co-operating with allies".
Stephen Harper wrote a letter to the editor telling us that it was the "Conservative party that urged the government to enter into negotiations with the United States on Ballistic Missile Defense in the first place." Stephen Harper is on record saying that Canada is already committed to be involved in Ballistic Missile Defense through NORAD.
Stephen Harper is on record within the last five years telling us that Canada is a "second-tier socialistic country", that Alberta should "build firewalls", and that West of Winnipeg Liberal ridings are "dominated by recent Asian immigrants".
All the Conservatives and the media pundits are outraged that poor Stephen Harper is a victim of "scare tactics". Are Canadians not allowed to even look at the recent words spoken by the man who wants to be our Prime Minister and judge him by those words?
Is it unreasonable to believe; given his words, that he would fully co-operate with Ballistic Missile Defense and whatever military venture George Bush has in mind next? Why? Please stop throwing Canada the red herring argument that poor Stephen is a victim of scare tactics. He's the victim of his own words, and deservedly so.

1. How right you are!
The media pundits have been warning of the Liberals "going negative and vilifying Harper" since the election campaign began and yet it is the Conservatives who have been calling the Liberals and Paul Martin corrupt and criminal from the beginning.....

2. No shit. Paul Martin is "corrupt:", despite the fact...
that Gomery not only called him not "responsible" for any wrongdoing, but also not even "careless".

Total exoneration, yet the media let's the CPC and others keep making false accusations.

3. WTG, great letter and right on point!
Harper is a bush wanna-be and if the faux Cons ever get in power we will find ourselves sold down the river and becoming the 51st state and in a deficit position as bad or worse than when that sleaze-bag Mulroney was in power.

4. Are you saying that the Canadian Media is just as bad as the US?
It's sounds like Canada has a media just as right wing as the US.

6. Only in that they want a fiery campaign and will do everything to
promote that so their ratings go up. Outside of that, I believe our media, as a whole, are much more objective than the U.S. media.

7. Do you think the Liberals will win at least a minority government?

8. That's a tough one, there WILL be a minority government
and I think it is more probable than a faux Con one but it depends on whether the Libs can get out the damaging goods on Harper during the next 2 weeks. If it is a faux Con minority, it will fall in less than a year because the NDP will hold the reins as they did with the Lib government and the faux Cons will not come close to meeting them in the middle.

If Canadians can see the reality of a third election in less than three years, I suspect they will vote Lib minority again and, if so, that government will last another 18 months.

Just my thoughts for what they are worth.

9. Our print media is totally right wing....
...CanWest Global and Sun Media represent almost all our print media now after many many takeovers, and they are very much rightwing.

And we have talk radio. Ugh.

I don't understand it myself. Our Country is mostly left of center (you know...cares about taking care of people)....the left vote gets split which is the only reason the Conservatives are the official opposition. Yet all these media types act as if they represent Canadian attitudes. It's BS.

10. The Corporate Agenda`
Is coming to a province near you, because it seems to work.

We can even get faux news now........which is, IMHO, a mistake.
