Petrol shortages near you?

This morning whilst walking to work, I noticed that the petrol station where I buy my newspaper and breakfast had run out of petrol, and had closed all of the pumps.

Does anybody else have shortages near them?

1. Not that I noticed

But the Petrol Station across the road from me was busier than normal last night. And I bought petrol, not due to panic, due to an empty tank.

3. One or two where Unleaded has run out

but the real bugbear for most people seems to be the panic buyers. The queues of cars around petrol stations are causing some quite unessesary traffic jams.

and I can't believe how cheap they are - I ordered thirty litres of super unleaded and it was there, next day, left on my doorstep in 2 litre plastic bottles.

4. Not that I can see

Of the 2 stations I saw this morning, one was workign as normal - busy, but not with unusual queues; the other had 'not working' signs on some pumps, but others seemed to be working OK.

The news said the total of protesters at out local refinery (Fawley) was 2.

6. I wouldn't expect it in the U.S.

There have been threatened blockades of oil refineries in the U.K. in protest at high fuel prices (which seem not to have materialised); however, there has been a significant degree of panic buying which is emptying some petrol stations. That's why I posted this in the U.K. forum.

Speaking of panic buying, does the U.K. see the same regular daily price flucuations that we do (sometimes 10-15 cents per gallon in a day for absolutely no reason)?

8. Prices are quoted in pence per litre

and most places use prices ending in ".9" (not that we can pay a fraction of a penny, of course). So a typical price rise of 1p per litre works out at nearly 7 cents per US gallon anyway. Quite possibly places have done rises of 2p per litre too - but I don't keep an eye on any one station from day to day, so it's difficult for me to say.

People on DU have said some US stations will raise their prices when a holiday weekend is coming up - I don't think I've seen that in the UK.

9. U.S. prices occasionally fluctuate by day of the week, too.

Gas in some places is less expensive at the beginning of the week and rises as the weekend gets closer.

We also have pump prices listed by the .9 cent (eg: $2.78.9/gallon today).
