To behave yourselves whilst I'm away? I know what happens in the UK forum when you're left to your own devices ;) And I know how slow things move when I'm NOT around to liven you all up...HOW I'm going to keep track on how my beloved Inverness Caledonian Thistle are doing, or how Wigan, Portsmouth, Norwich, Yeovil and Southend are doing, I'm not sure.

I'm physically away tomorrow, but I'm going to be away from the computer this afternoon.

Jaysus, 12 hour flights are a TORTURE. I hate that part of going somewhere, I'm hoping that the in-flight film is NOT something involving Jennifer Lopez OR Russell Crowe or some such similar type of plastic Hollywood products.

17. Seriously, nearly everyone on the plane was SO boring, apart
From a tiny boy of about 2, he was a TOTAL doll. By the time we landed in Chicago I would have gladly have welcomed death by that point.

Gumbo Creole, Crawfish Etouffee, Blackened Fish with fried shrimp and dirty rice and two Hand-Grenades. Fuck Yeah, that's my kind of dinner ;)

3. Have a safe journey
can't speak for the others but as far as Norwich City are concerned there will be plenty of this:

?v=1&c=MS_GINS&k=2

(well just as long as the rules are changed so that we can play the footballing equivalent of Fred Karno's army every week))

7. Try again
It was the celebration of the winner at Portaloo Road yesterday. Can't work out why it didn't work - something to do with DU being very busy?

Some of the local cable companies carry Fox Soccer Channel down here in the swamp.

It's hot down here, but you know that..

edit to add: love bug season - stay off the motorcycles - YUCK!

6. It'll be so incredibly surreal if the Fox Sports Channel showed a
Wigan Athletic game...in the middle of the swamp :)

I'm mentally prepared for 90 degrees and to do some swatting if need be ;)

Love bug season, oh dear.

Thanks for the wishes for a safe trip...I can't wait to arrive, because it's home you know, my heart belongs in Louisianne. We're going to attempt to get into the Crescent City, with my Grandmother, because her house in the Garden District survived.

Where you at, if you don't mind me asking?

9. I live in Abbeville
which is just south of Lafayette.

http://www2.foxsports.com/world/pdf/fsw39.pdf

If you'll still be here next Saturday the 24th, you can watch Portsmouth play Bolton and the Hammers upset Arsenal on FSC.

People ask me all the time 'What's a dabs.com?'

10. Abbeville
I know it, New Iberia-Jeanerette way, Cajun way ;)

Aw heck, I'm in Dallas until about next Monday. I'll have to see if that Portsmouth vs Bolton game is on there...Portsmouth are nice, oddly their football kit is almost EXACTLY the same as the French national teams kit.

I'll check out the following two weeks' games though.

What is a dabs.com? Nah, I'm just kidding you :)

13. Hey Benito...are you okay?
Relatives in Lake Charles had to get out. I saw the tragic state that Abbeville is in and so I've been worried about you Just so you know, I hope you're okay.

It must have been very hard these last few weeks, I do wish I'd been around to offer a few words of support, but I'm glad you chose to stick around.

I guess.

How about Southend United? My friend in Little Wakering has been communicating via cell phone giving me the football results.

19. They've been doing GREAT!
They are the top end of League 1 and look like promotion contenders.

Mind you, I'm still recovering from Chrissy Brunt's wonder goal for Sheffield Wednesday against Coventry last week.

21. Wednesday won 3-2
Which leaves us 3rd from bottom of the Championship. It was actually a pretty good open game but we still need a few players back from injury ASAP.

23. Who needs Mourinho ? We've got Paul Sturrock-o!
So goes the admittedly rubbish chant at Hillsborough these days. In case you are interested, here is an old UK forum thread from last season in which you can see his moving from Southampton to Wednesday very well.

24. Any thoughts on this Kicked in the Taco?
Since it's a Southend story (plus Freddie & Co are now top of League 1 I believe!)

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article318442.ece

A massive blaze destroyed part of Southend's historic pier today. Around 60 firefighters tackled flames leaping 30 to 40 feet into the air as the " absolutely huge" inferno engulfed up to 130 feet of the structure in Essex - the world's longest pleasure pier.

In the early hours several buildings, including the Jolly Fisherman pub and a fish and chip shop, collapsed into the Thames estuary, taking part of the pier's wooden floor with them.

This morning, the fire, which began at around 10.40pm yesterday, about a mile from the shore, was under control.

Initial efforts to extinguish it were hampered by the fact that the tide was out and the pier's water pumps could not be used.

15. Have a good journey!
And best wishes to all your family - give them my best thoughts; I know that they - and you- have been through a terrible ordeal.

I don't like long flights either, and the longest I've done were 7 hours, so I do sympathize! Take a good book, and make sure you get up and walk every now and then, even if it's just to the loo or get a refreshment, to keep the circulation going!

16. 12 Hour flight = no smoking = AARRGGHH!!!!
Still, I've survived and am in Fort Worth, Texas...'um, parts of town are Redneck Central and have been driving me CRAZY.

A third of my family had to evacuate from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Absolute insanity, considering the same third had previously had to evacuate because of Katrina, nobody knows whether they're coming or going, but at least they're all safe. Thanks for your ongoing kind words mon amie.

Book I was reading on the plane was 'The Years of Lyndon Johnson: Means of Ascent' by Robert A. Caro, a damn fine book too.

...I managed to keep the circulation going, but the BOREDOM had me wanting to jump out of the plane several times ;)
