Bishops suggest apology for war
Church of England bishops have suggested Christian leaders apologise to Muslim leaders for the war in Iraq.

A report from a working group of bishops says the war was one of a "long litany of errors" relating to Iraq.

As the government is unlikely to offer an apology, a meeting of religious leaders would provide a "public act of institutional repentance", it said.

I do not want to sound cynical but this sort of vapid apology by Church of England clergymen to their British Muslim counterparts is going to make sod all difference to the people of Iraq. What would be more useful is a direct lead from these individuals to their flock instructing them what actions they should take to bring this illegal occupation to an end. Surely, if the Church thinks the invasion was morally wrong then it should excommunicate all those supposed Christians, such as Tony Blair, who helped organise and implement it. Just saying sorry is not enough.

3. The Church of England doesn't really have the authority to order a pullout
