Scottish Executive wants students to come to live & work in Scotland
McConnell: 'Come to Scotland'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/scotland/4163471.stm

The next stage of the scheme to attract young people to work in Scotland has been set out by the first minister.

Jack McConnell launched the Relocation Advisory Service in Glasgow, which offers support and advice. It is part of the Scottish Executive's Fresh Talent plan to help reverse the population decline.

The service has already taken 1,000 calls from people overseas, most of which were about visas, work permits, housing and other relating information.

<snip>

Mr McConnell also announced that the two-year visas being offered to overseas students will apply to diploma students as well as graduates.

Here's the link to the Relocation Advisory Service (I had to Google for it - hope it works)

2. Good job on the link, here's some info from the site on jobs
This would surely make my late Scotch/Irish daddy proud to see them reaching out to other folks. I understand IT is booming there.

Work In Scotland
An expanding economy is creating opportunity in all areas for committed workers and professionals who want to be part of 21st century Scotland. The list of job and career opportunities is long and diverse, ranging from plentiful bar and restaurant work to senior executive positions with major companies.

The banking, insurance and finance sector is well established and Edinburgh is now ranked as Europe’s sixth largest equity management centre. The Royal Bank of Scotland, from its Edinburgh headquarters, is one of the world’s most profitable companies.

Oil and gas, discovered under the hostile waters of the North Sea during the 1960s, transformed Scotland’s industrial base and continues to create wealth and jobs. The city of Aberdeen is unchallenged as the offshore oil capital of Europe, and the international oil industry looks to Scotland for technical innovation and guaranteed skills.

Electronics and software firms proliferate in the central belt around Edinburgh and Glasgow and seven of the top 10 computer manufacturers have a presence in Scotland which, at one stage, was producing 7 per cent of all computers sold worldwide. Applied science, too, is a growing area helped by the increasing number of spin-off ventures from university research departments.
