DUP Northern Ireland Environment Minister denies man-made climate change
Figures - the DUP are the closest thing in the UK to the US Republicans (slightly ironically, given the latter's name):

Wilson row over green 'alarmists'

The Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has angered green campaigners by describing their view on climate change as a "hysterical psuedo-religion".

In an article in the News Letter, Mr Wilson said he believed it occurred naturally and was not man-made.
...
Mr Wilson said he refused to "blindly accept" the need to make significant changes to the economy to stop climate change.

"The tactic used by the "green gang" is to label anyone who dares disagree with their view of climate change as some kind of nutcase who denies scientific fact," he said.

1. The DUP welcomed Bush's re-election in 2004
so yes, they are ideological soul-mates.

2. And now, the chair of the Assembly Education Committee turns out to be a creationist
DUP MLA Mervyn Storey – an avowed creationist – has rejected a call for creationism to be brought into the science class, while Belfast-based evolutionist Peter Bowler has said the idea may have some validity.
...
Mr Storey, who triggered a debate recently when the News Letter reported his call for creationism to be taught in science classes, rejected the professor’s ideas.

“While there are some interesting aspects to Prof Reiss’ suggestion he appears to be suggesting that creationism be brought into the science class only in order to debunk it,” he said. “I do not believe that this is the way forward.”

Instead, the chair of the Assembly Education Committee called for more scientific data to be given to pupils which calls into question the theory of evolution.

Via Pagan Prattle (includes audio of RTE report, in which Storey clearly states he think the earth was created in 6 days, and wants that taught in schools because he thinks there's 'data' for it - and a bonus: some creationist politicians want a leaflet on the Giant's Causeway to say it's only 6,000 years old :banghead: )
