Alternative G8 event in Scotland
I was in Edinburgh yesterday and had a chat with some activists who were promoting an alternative G8 event that will be held there on 3 July. The list of speakers includes George Monbiot, George Galloway and Scott Ritter. I'm going along to some of the events.

Just before I spoke to the activists I watched a big gay and lesbian equality rights march. It was a sight to behold. Hundreds of people marched down The Mound, past the National Gallery, and then past another Scottish icon: the Scott Monument. There was even a gay rugby team all kitted out in their team strip, chanting "we're here, we're queer and we want some beer!". All the straight women were drooling at them... The onlookers were good natured and the participants were having a ball, banging drums and blowing whistles; the sun was shining and people were enjoying the atmosphere...great!

On the down side I saw numerous beggars including a 16-17 year old girl, outside Waverley Station, who looked like she was a smack addict. Similar scenes can be seen in Dundee and Aberdeen. People must have hit rock bottom before they are prepared to humiliate themselves in that way; poor devils.

2. I'll see about going
I gotta drive down there and find parking somewhere... perhaps i'll
park outside edinburgh and take the train in, as its such a pain to get
in and out of there.

I agree that the speakers are excellent, and it would really be worth
while to check out.. thanks for the info.
