do you guys have over there ? This type of thing pisses me off when I see reptilicans do it, but when I see it on a progressive forum, I honestly can't picture myself staying here much longer. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=125x48127

If you can satisfy visa requirements and have enough money for accommodation you'll do fine here. The more Liberals/Progressives, the merrier. :hi:
It isn't paradise here but we have some good things: * No one except certified loons believe that creationism should be taught in schools * Free health care * A government that is centre-left (compared to the U.S.) * Abortion isn't an issue (support for banning abortion remains extremely low, even amongst conservatives) * A small "religious right", all of which are considered loons by the rest of the public * The education system isn't perfect, but it's to a higher standard (compared to the U.S.) * If you hang around long enough for U.K. citizenship, you gain the right to live and work anywhere in the E.U. * The broadcast media on the whole does a good job * When Gordon Brown becomes PM, we might inch closer to a social democracy * In most respects, Britain is very socially-liberal.

2. I've always envied you. |
|
You're right, no country is perfect, but I want to live somewhere where olive skinned people with accents are not viewed with suspicion. Where atheists aren't treated like immoral savages. Where animals really do have rights. Where people strive to be better than they were and better than they are. And that somewhere is not here, nor will it ever be.

the planet and to me this island often feels like a prison. I'd try Canada if i were you.

4. Well, I'd be willing to |
|
accept the cameras because of your excellent record on animal rights.
Has your government abused their surveillance equipment ?

5. I have no doubt they have, and i have no doubt they will again. Its all |

part of the increasing control of the population in this country.
But if you're willing to accept big brother and a police state so long as the bunnies are fed thats your choice.
Sweden's also nice. In fact i'm thinking of going myself. Britain is depressing me at the moment.
In Sweden you can roam anywhere you like as long as its not deliberately near someone's dwelling. I think there's a nominal distance. So out in the countryside there's no such thing as private property. Just miles and miles of some of the most beautiful land on earth. Free and safe. In Britain you'll get shot by fucking Madonna.
Also 50 years of democratic socialism in Sweden have made it the most contented nation on earth (officially).
They also tend not to invade and destroy other countries (but don't mention the Nazis mind or eugenics)

You're also less likely to get shot, tasered or beaten senseless by the police.

I had forgotten those perks. When the cops are allowed to get away with brutality, the abusive types will continue to become cops.

9. If you want to come to Britain you want to get a |
|
sense of humour, otherwise you won't have a very nice time.
I was taking the piss, i wasn't being insulting. Perhaps its a culture difference or perhaps it doesn't come across well in print rather than speech, or perhaps further its not actually funny.
All the same it wasn't an insult. Apologies for any offence.

11. No offense taken then. |

I am very passionate about animal rights, your country is very aware of their suffering while mine could care less. I'm afraid I'm touchy on the subject and intent is difficult to gage on the internet, unfortunately.
Thanks for the advice, my dad mentioned the cameras as well, he has always resented Big Brother, although he still loved the UK and Europe.
I never looked as Sweden, I'll have to do some research.
