The right wing cretins step into action:
I'm surprised they managed to hold back for so long

1. Strange how they don't mention
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 04:13 AM by english guy
the fact that the guy they shot was unarmed...

Times

ARMED undercover police chased and shot dead a man directly linked to the London bombers’ terror cell after he ran into a South London Underground station and tried to board a train.

It is understood that he was found not to have been carrying a bomb.

10. Note the difference in witness statements
Two witnesses say he tripped on entry to the carriage and ended up half in and half out, on the floor, while one claims he took a hostage. It always amazes me how much variation you get in witness reports.

4. After all the patting of one's own backs for stoicism in exactly the same
papers and how very British we were all being about this, they then (true to form) begin to support the tactics of some South American dictatorship's police force.

"Fucking kill the brown bastards" is the inference i get from these wonderful journalists. What about anyone else?

5. They seem to be peddling Grub Street's favourite nostrum...
... "We're just reflecting public opinion"

Bollocks! How many of the poor buggers who had the misfortune to witness yesterday's shooting were saying, "Hey, yeah, great, hope they get one on my tube train every morning!" They were traumatised.

And how do the Plods feel about this, do we ask? I may not be the Boys in Blue's most consistent fan but I don't envy them their job at the best of times and to have the armchair warriors baying to turn them into a shoot-first-ask-later assassination squad is going to do wonders for recruitment and retention, isn't it?

That's the Great British Press for you! Always part of the problem, never part of the solution ..

15. I read the front page of the Mail (or Express) this morning and it was
quite horrible.
Its language of "refused to obey police" and "shoot-to-kill-squad" and "took him out" made my stomach turn.

You can just feel their imperialist authoritarian racism seeping from the pages. They don't give a fuck if he was a terrorist they'll be saying that it sends a message. they'll be cheering that the state is taking a hard line etc etc.

Such subservient pricks. they would have worked for Geobells had they been in 30's Germany.

Touch of irony there, I think.

9. I think we can guess
The geniuses at the Sun prefer to think of foreigners in terms of simple stereotypes, and they're familiar with the "Italians are cowards" one. Expect tired jokes about how many reverse gears Italian tanks have.

8. I wonder what their headlines were in April '99?
Strangely enough, I don't remember the RW press being quite so bloodthirsty when a Nazi nutter conducted a bombing campaign against ethnic minorities and gays:

But the hacks are creaming themselves this time round.

After all, it's not as if he was white. Or a footballer. Or a Big Brother contestant.

14. Yes, and anyway, he ran
he disobeyed the police. It's his own fault. And what was done is perfectly okay - bar the accident that an innocent civilian was killed as a result.

They've already legitimised the policy, so they will have little difficulty using it as a justification.

Israeli government. It hasn't exactluy worked for a start, and the first result is this.

17. Probably "It sends a message to the bombers" We will kill
anyone to get you.

Some kind of shit. In fact they'll probably just ignopre it and half the population will still believe they shot a terrorist.

Their lead will be a kiss and tell about a big brother contestant
