I usually flit from here to the Lounge to GD, but the level of bigotry and nastiness there at the moment is disgusting. And I don't just mean things directed at us cowardly fascistic Brits. Better to just stay out of it and let the loudmouths take out the frustration of living in the world's most fucked-up country on each other.

Usually upon entering GD I skim the thread titles and click hide thread button on all possible flamer threads. Today there were so many to hide and a new one keeps popping up every five minutes.

My hide thread button is getting a good workout.

It is usually more civilized in LBN.

and I don't blame him. I'm thinking twice about going to GD/LBN threads which are controversial. I think most DUers are reasonable people but they choose to stay out of such messy threads. I still love the U.S. and D.U. despite both of their faults.

I think our little U.K. Forum is especially great. :)

It worries me that on the Political Threads there seems to be at least as much pissing inside the tent as pissing out. It could get a little messy before the next round of American Elections.

Seems to me that ridding Murrica and the World of the Neocon Gangsters is more important than looking for Fascists under the bed.

15. GD tends to make my head spin!

I'm very interested in American politics, but I find all the infighting between slightly different shades of Democrat very confusing.

Reminds me of all the infighting among Labourites in the 1980s. The obsession with keeping the party 'pure' helped to keep Maggie and her cronies in power forever, which in its turn set the stage for the election of a 'Labour' PM whose right-wing tendencies would exceed the worst nightmares of the 1980s purists.

I hope that all this infighting won't help to keep the American far-right in power forever.

17. FREE SPEECH

I have tried to make a point when replying to a thread. Trying to spark an intelligent debate. All I received in reply was racial remarks .They had told me to 'clean my house here in the UK before we try to clean their house'.(Oh and by the way we are Fascist as well over here). In other words Mind my own business
This was the impression I was given .
I know that the vast majority of DUers want to see fair debate but a minority are spoiling the integrity of this site.
Whose site is this anyway .
I thought it was for people who believe in Democratic ideals for all those of colour and creed .

The party is out of power, and needs to get its platform in gear to win,
hopefully more effectively than the Tories.

American culture does not have the argument style of british culture,
it is childish quite often, as that is what the culture promotes.
When republicans argue, they always make personal attacks. There is
no attempt to raise the integrity of a discussion, just bludgeon
and hack.

I love GD when the storms are brewing. Its gonna get angrier as persons
fight over what the party should stand for, and as well, vent their
pent up frustrations at not only being the minority party, but being
entirely banned from representation. So you hear the frustration of
more than half the US population at having not a single voice in
government.

In that sense, blair is one of the most heinous assholes of the lot, as
without his support, bush would not have won in 04. British persons
have a lot to be ashamed about in that regard.

When parties are in the wilderness, the debates are hot, and its a
healthy sign, just don't take a single thing personally.

:-) Sorry that it offends... there is a lot of bile to vent
in a world of heinous repression and abuse.
