Islamists accuse BBC of being pro-Israeli
By Richard Ford

THE most powerful Islamic organisation in Britain has accused the BBC of persecution after a documentary said that it was in denial about sectarianism in its communities.

A Panorama documentary broadcast on BBC One last night suggested that the (MCB) should provide a stronger lead and that groups affiliated to it peddle hardline views.

The MCB is an umbrella organisation with more than 400 affiliated groups. They include Ahl-e-Hadith, which has a British base in Birmingham and 41 branches across the country.

According to the documentary one part of its website exhorts its followers to “be different from Jews and Christians”, whose “ways are based on sick or deviant views concerning their societies”.

3. It wouldn't particularly surprise me if an enquiry found pro-Israel bias
The UK and US have been politically joined at the hip ever since Reagan and Thatcher -- each serving turn-and-turn-about as a 'test market' as fresh hells were thought up by the corporatocracy. Keeping the oil-rich Arab countries in line definitely has been policy at least that long, and with the loss of the Beeb's independence of voice....

5. pro-Israeli bias at the B.B.C.?
We may indeed have been joined at the hip - and the relationship between Bush and Poodle-Boy Blair has some of the 'ambiguity' of that between Reagan and Thatcher - but Israel-Palestine is one place where this has not been the case.

I'm very heavily on the Palestinian side of the argument, but even I recognise that the B.B.C. (if it has any bias) leans towards the Palestinians. The notion that it's pro-Israeli is quite frankly bizarre in the extreme.

6. The BBC has been accused of anti-Israel bias too
That's normal: the BBC frequently gets criticised by both sides of a contentious issue, each side thinking that the beeb is biased against them.

10. Sharon/Likud calls BBC "Anti-Semitic" (articles enclosed)
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 11:36 AM by ...of J.Temperance
I think it's about time the world stopped bending over backwards and pampering Israel. Israel was born in 1948, therefore they're grown-up's now. I'm ALL for the Israeli Labor Party, I LOVED Rabin, Peres and Barak. I HATE, LOATHE, DETEST the Likud Party...so FU Fat Boy Sharon and FU Fat Neck Bibi.

Here's three pieces where the cry babies Sharon and Likud whine about the BBC being "Anti-Semitic", isn't it funny, EVERY TIME someone calls them on their shit and tells the TRUTH about them, they're automatically anti-Semitic. You know, Barbra Streisand defended the Palestinians a few years ago, and yep, you guessed it, she got called anti-Semitic. Streisand is an anti-Semite according to these folks.

14. The BBC should take solace from the fact that it's pissing off ...
...trenchant partisans on both sides. To be honest, I personally do think the BBC's reporting demonstrates a slight bias in favour of the Palestinians, but that article from JWR buries any reasonable points under a slagheap of hysteria- not surprising given that the author works for the Jerusalem fishwrap Post, I suppose.

7. I don't think that's fair about the BBC. It maintains neutrality in
difficult times. I'm sure the Israelis think it has a pro-Palestine bias.

8. I've no investment in the idea, and I've chosen to limit my exposure to
ruling-class media ever since Reagan/Thatcher, so I'm happy to defer to your view as I'm sure your information is better than my own.

13. I've always found the Beeb fairly even-handed ....
... a wee bit pro-Israeli, maybe, but not worryingly so.

15. Yes!
I know some Israelis who are constantly moaning that it has a pro-Palestine bias!

I think the BBC are fairly even-handed; not in the business of telling any particular group what it 'wants to hear'.

Unfortunately, Blair and Co seem to have been trying to bring the BBC under more control since the affair of David Kelly's death. But I really don't think that this has affected their reporting of issues relating to Israeal and Palestine.
