I want to make some comments, if that's okay? (UK Forum population)
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 11:01 PM by ...of J.Temperance
My family are all okay and safe. My Grandmother's in the hospital for about the next week, being taken care of, her blood pressure has been pretty high, so everyone thinks she's better off where she is and will be able to get the care she needs.

As I pointed out earlier. My Grandmother's 86 years old, she was born in the house that she's almost certainly lost. It's not so much the house, although that's a tragedy with it's memories and it's charming beauty. There were possessions in the house that she wasn't able to take...things belonging to her parents and to my Grandfather, things that have no price attached to them because they were personally precious. It's that sort of thing that hurts the most.

However, the MOST important part, is that my family are safe, whereas had they not evacuated, my family very well might be dead now. In the end you can rebuild almost anything, but the one thing you can't rebuild is another human life if you're already dead.

This entire catastrophic event has left me literally in physical pain, I'm aching all over and I can FEEL a part of my soul has DIED. I've stopped watching the news because it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to even get my head around. It just leaves one shell-shocked and in a daze. That THIS suffering can be allowed to happen, is BEYOND my comprehension. I just have NO words for the lack of basic humanity and compassion from the MONSTER thats squatting in the White House...I'd better stop right here, or else I'm VERY likely to write what I actually want to say and that VERY likely could get me arrested.

Now an apology:

The people in this UK Forum, the MAJORITY of the people here, you've all shown such friendliness and have been so nice all round. I feel I owe you ALL a huge apology for my behaviour the other night. I'm genuinely sorry about what happened. I hope you can forgive me for losing complete control like I did. I feel incredibly embarrassed and ashamed about that meltdown that I had, I really do.

I remain,

The Impression...of J.Temperance (looks so much better, darn that 20 character rule)

1. Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about
But, I forgive you. It's the DU way. Are you talking about a home in NO? If so, why is this on the UK forum? I'm confused.

Well about three nights ago. There was a post about something unrelated and my head was in such a mess at that point, with worry and despair, that I just completely lost the plot and made comments that the people in the UK Forum didn't deserve. That original set of comments were made in this forum, so thats why I posted this in the UK Forum.

My Grandmother's house was in Orleans Parish, yeah...or whats left of Orleans Parish

 hope your family is well, safe and sound.

4. Yes
We're some of the lucky ones, our family are all alive.

My heart is broken for those people who have, it seems, been abandoned and are suffering. If it were humanly possible, wouldn't ANY of us just scoop them all up and bring them on home? Yes, I know we would.

I thank you for your nice comments, they're well appreciated.

5. Glad to see you back here, oJT ....
... and relieved to hear that your folks are safe and well.

Having gone through the trauma of dealing with 9/11 - Mrs. Skin is a New Yorker - I have some idea of what you're going through right now, and it's understandable that your emotions are all over the place.

I desperately hope that the US authorities can get their act together and get a grip of the situation in the South. Those poor people badly need a break.

Best Wishes
The Skin

6. Don't give it another thought...
Your anguish and worries are far more important than the feelings and reactions of a few of us who didn't understand the situation the other night.

Meltdown? What meltdown? I don't remember that at all..

So glad that your family is safe and that you're here with us.

8. Glad to hear your family is safe
and sorry about the losses of all the irreplaceable things.

And also a belated welcome to DU. I went on holiday the day before you joined, and have come back to find you've made many valuable contributions to DU in your first three weeks. With your personal stake in the hurricane disaster, it's not surprising you were on edge earlier. It's never easy to know if silence on the Internet is acceptance but with nothing to add, indifference, or mute hostility. The vast majority of DUers are good guys, so it's probably better to start assuming the first option.

9. I'm glad they're OK
I remember you said you had relatives there, and I was worrying. I am glad they are alive and well, and wish them all the best. I can't imagine such a terrifying ordeal. All the best to you, too!!!

11. That's OK, you were under a lot of stress.
Discussion boards like this are a difficult balancing act - first, you have to remember that it's NOT real life, and it's unwise to invest too much emotional energy. But this is balanced by second, you are dealing with real people with real lives. I fucked up more times than I care to remember when I was in the 800s-low 1000s and getting bolder. It hurts. But most people here are basically good people, especially in UKDU which is a lovely bunch.

12. Thanks to everyone
For your kind comments, compassion and understanding

I probably won't post anything now until sometime next week. I'm very emotional, so I need to get that calmed down.

The city that I spent so many WONDERFUL times in, that I spent most Summers in as a child...is now on fire

I just CAN'T understand why they can't send in those helicopters that spray water, like the one's you see putting out forest fires.

It's like they WANT the city to just be COMPLETELY destroyed. I'm thinking that the MONSTER and the Republicans want NOLA gone. They've ALWAYS hated New Orleans, hated the people, hated the culture, hated everything its about.

The city might go, but they'll NEVER kill the spirit of New Orleans, the spirit will live FOREVER. The people are too unique and special and I HAVE to believe that one day, New Orleans will rise again.
