Sen. John M.McHugh Email response to me
Dear XXXXX:

Thank you for sharing with me your concerns about various voting issues. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to comment.

You will be interested to learn that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) announced yesterday that it plans to investigate alleged voting irregularities during the 2004 election. GAO will examine the security and accuracy of voting technologies, distribution and allocation of voting machines and the counting of provisional ballots. Additional information can be found at http://www.gao.gov/electionresults.pdf.

Again, thanks for contacting me. I hope you will continue to share your views with me on matters involving Congress.

Sincerely yours,

John M.McHugh
Memberof Congress

1. OK, well, that's one out we should close off to them

We should have a letter writing guide, where we keep track of responses like this. So when we send a letter and they come back will "You will be pleased to learn that the (powerless) GAO is going to..." we can start putting at the top of all our letters:

"I know of the GAO investigation and am concerned it will not go far enough"

Each time, they will be forced to come up with a new "go away and don;t bother us" answer, which at least, will be a bother to them, and if we are lucky, will get the attention of a few of them.

2. They all write these return responses calibrated to say nothing.

"I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to comment."

So where's HIS comment?

Just for once I'd like to see a "I agree totally with you" or a "You're full of shit, here's why" response.

The whole point is to understand what their positions are, but they seem to want to say as little as possible, especially on something as contraversial as this subject.
