Kerry gives unused funds for state recount

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- John Kerry has wired $250,000 in unspent campaign funds to help Democrats pay for a second recount in the election for Washington state governor, party officials say.

The donation Wednesday about doubled the available funds but the party still has no more than half the $1 million or more required to pay for a hand recount of all 2.9 million ballots, chairman Paul Berendt said.

“John Kerry really came to our rescue,”
Berendt said, “but our ability to pay for a statewide recount is still subject to money which is not in...

11. why is Rossi a sleaze bag?
I think i'm lacking information. I live in Washington state, voted for Gregoire and am very, very happy about Kerry giving money towards the recount. I think it stinks that so much money is needed for a recount in such a historically close race.

But, my impression of Rossi was that he is pretty moderate. I've heard him interviewed during the election and he didn't seem unreasonable or give me the creeps like most republicans. Can you tell me specifics that make you call him a sleaze bag. I'm not challenging your statement, I'm trying to educate myself.

Thanks.

Really.

I live in Washington State, too. Rossi will be our own little gwb. This race is huge, and we really need to support Gregoire and cross our fingers.

23. It DOES stink
Yes, it really does stink that such a close recount is not automatic! If Gregoire wins, I think she should sue to get her $ back!!

I'm pretty sure that if the election is overturned, the challenging candidate is entitled to a refund of the costs incurred.

16. SO WHY DOESN'[T KERRY PAY FOR ALL OF IT?
Jeesuz, he has 50 million dollars - why can't they give $1 million to Washington State?

I don't see how the Party in Washington can come up with the other half million and they need to do it by tomorrow night...

If they go recount in only certain counties they will lose, they need a total state recount

21. Agreed - this is the perfect opportunity to prove skimming and padding.
Someone needs to fully test these machines with a hand count comparison now, they should pay for it all (and include the Pres race while they're at it).

29. He doesn't have $50 million. He only had 17 left. He had given the rest to
the DNC. And now there was such a fuss made about the retention of money he is giving another 13 million to the DNC. The DNC should fund the Wa state recount. They have all the money and are using this as an excuse to raise more!

their spokespeople? He already gave them 23 million and now is giving them another 17 million. The DNC should put up the money. All of it.

against Berendt since he broke into tears on camera over the situation. They have been making foder of him in much of the media.
These people are so hateful. What happened to America's heart?

I donated $50 myself..going broke....
