One final note here. I should clarify what I wrote in this space last night about Countdown’s interaction with Bev Harris of Black Box Voting. My staff is not certain that any of our messages to Ms. Harris inviting her on the show since the week of November 15 have specifically asked her for permission to play the videotapes of her work trying to audit the Florida vote. We think so, but I’ve got only three people booking all the guests on this program, and they each probably make about 100 calls a day.

Complicating our effort is the fact that even as we hoped to provide a platform to publicize and illuminate her efforts, Ms. Harris had returned none of the messages left on her own voicemail by Countdown staffers since she spoke to our staffers briefly, twice, during the week of November 8. Only today did she even get back in touch with us, and was so belligerent, threatening, and demanding, that we have chosen to withdraw our invitation to her to appear, or to have videotape of her efforts played, on Countdown.

Threats against myself or my staff will not be tolerated. We are not only busting our humps on the voting irregularities beat, but we remain the only mainstream news organization to continue to cover this vital story. These are my people — they are running professional risks I can’t begin to describe — and I will stand up for them, first, last, and always.

I found this line especially interesting... Are they doing things we are not aware of, or is he referring to his nightly segment on the voting irregularities as "busting our humps"?

Why would Bev call Countdown with this kind of attitude? Belligerent? Threatening? Demanding?

31. Hey--I've given money to Bev in the past--lots of it in fact

and right now I've got some questions and I personally think that I'm entitled to ask them because I've given her my money. And you know, to earn the dollars I donate I have to work which prevents me from being out there doing the investigative work on this thing. I don't have a job that allows me to pick up and take off and track this story down--not all of us have those kinds of jobs and some of us don't have jobs at all. We do not deserve W for President and we don't deserve you're insulting us for having legit questions either.

I respect Bev for what she is doing, and I don't doubt her intentions. But I have to admit I haven't really been putting my eggs in her basket for being the savior of all this. Actually I won't do that for anybody. This is far bigger then KO, then Bev, and we have tons of us putting the effort forth in our own way. So I never placed all my hope in her, and this whole battle between them is actually meaningless to me. I am counting on justice, that's it. Counting on an Ohio recount. Counting on Kerry to come out and do the right thing. Most importantly I am counting on all of us.

28. A leader needs to be above the fray

I said this on an earlier thread and I stand by it. She allowed her ego to step in and unfortunately did major damage to her work's reputation. I only hope that if what she is doing is legitimate, she will realize that she needs to tone down her feelings and do what she can to establish a positive reputation with MSM and her donors.
