1. Yeah, controversy...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 05:38 AM by demobabe
I'm interested to know why there are TWO films out there called Votergate, both using much of the same Bev Harris and other footage. Wouldn't that be copyright violation, or does a similar odd situation exist between those two entities like it does with blackboxvoting.com and blackboxvoting.org?

I'm also interested to know what Bev Harris's affiliation is with this film since it is all about what she's doing. Is she receiving monies from this film in any way?

I also am curious as to why these folks are soliciting donations for the production of their movie. I looked up the background:

"Three exciting young independent filmmakers, Simon Ardizzone, Russell Michaels and Robert Carrillo Cohen, have produced Votergate in association with Sarah Teale / Teale Productions (www.tealeproductions.com) (recent films include “Bellvue” for HBO’s “America Undercover) and with Earl Katz’s Public Interest Pictures (www.publicinterestpictures.com) (recent films include, “Unprecedented” and most recently, “Unconstitutional”)."

Earl Katz is a finance guy - he didn't solicit donations for the Robert Greenwald films. MoveOn.org put up some money to help fund those, I think. But I guess if you get people to send you free money, then you don't have to worry about paying any percentage of royalties to them...

2. Looking at publilcinterestpictures.com website
Okay, these folks seem well and fine - they state on their website that they're non-profit and that proceeds from the sale of their films go to make more documentaries. But they're also soliciting donations.

So many folks are asking for donations anymore, I get skeptical of everything, but this really seems like a case of where they could get grants and sponsorships to pay for the production.

4. yeah, well...
...disseminating revolutionary information must be quite
expensive these days. i thought all you needed to do was
send a few emails out to the media....but, then, maybe
that only works if you have something *novel* to say.

9. I think Bev Harris & Votergate have been swiftboated by DU
over-zealots and Olberman. If you have a good cause, then you'll have to produce the DVDs on your own. It's not difficult to do and can be done straight out of your garage. Maybe even contact Michael Moore to see if anyone is interested in mass-production.

18. That video is owned by Votergate.tv

Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 04:45 AM by BevHarris
And, to be precise, it is not about ballot-dumping. I don't know when they'll release it.

Since I was there, I can tell you what got caught on video, but most of this wasn't our video crew, it was the Votergate.tv people.

It has:

- altercation over garbage bag at warehouse
- public records request asking for garbage contents
- poll tapes in garbage
(ballots were also in garbage, but most were sample ballots, though some were unvoted actual ballots, slightly reduced in size)
- also... later.. at election division downtown Deland: staff member taking garbage bin out
- staff member bringing in empty garbage bin
- voting activists digging in garbage
- garbage that went out the back door coming right back in the front door
- discovery that poll tapes in garbage were some of the ones missing from the public records they provided
- discovery that a poll tape contained signatures of poll workers
- question asked of Lana Hires: Can you explain this?
- Lana's response: I won't answer any questions
- Arrival of Volusia County lawyers
- sealing of the evidence
- interview with Susan Pynchon after filing lawsuit to set aside election

That was an interesting day.

Hearing on the lawsuit is tomorrow at 2. Stay tuned.

Bev

12. I know. I look forward to seeing it. But you have a small group
of people on this newsgroup who swiftboated Bev. Meaning, people who stirred up the mud so much that it will be very difficult for her to get the word out. I feel for Bev, support her, and hope she can find another place to continue her work.

Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 07:49 AM by SomthingsGotaGive
But what exactly are bbv and votergate trying to 'get out'?

And what seems to be the difficulty.

It was not any group I belong to 'swiftboated'.

I live in Soviet Canukistan and maybe this is really none of my business.

I became 'obsessed' with this after my questions were ignored and ridiculed.

Left to my own devises to find the answers to my question I found several more questions instead of answers.

I asked them and got no reply to those either.

So now I'm suspicious and a little ticked off that questions I thought were reasonable and would be helpfully in clearing this up were ignored instead of simple answered.

17. I recall SPECIFICALLY
that Bev Harris posted that during the incident that the Votergate FILM CREW WAS LATE.. and that some of it had been caught by her friend and PR person on a handheld camera..

See what I mean?

Never a straight story.

Meanwhile WE made a movie called Electile Dysfunction that WE produced without a call for bucks.. we mortgaged our home to pay for it and get the word out..

Now it's a Premium at Buzzflash and we are trying to sell it to pay for production - to me that's the moral thing to do.

And this stuff about Bev not being part of the movie while the film crew FOLLOWS HER AROUND, while she pulls frat stunts is another reason I doubt all these guys.

She's not the only one with the goods folks, and for people to ATTACK US - for spending a year researching, travelling (with my pregnant and brave wife), interviewing hundreds of stars, experts, journalist, and regulare people, producing a DVD and then selling it - is absolutely absurd and hateful.

Saying no one else has any veracity is the worst form of intolerance, and I'm glad Skinner reduced the din of insults to rational hard working people by what appeared to be posers.

I'm proud of our work and I'm willing to bet it will be pretty damn well received by plenty of folks that have never heard of BBV or Votergate - and again WHY are there TWO VOtergate movies with the same footage in them?

I'm amazed and tired of being insulted for all my hard work. Thank god for people like Will Pitt, who's in the movie and appreciates what we've done, and Buzzflash doesn't promote Kooks either, so we're in good company there..

rant over.

7. I guess I didn't get the memo
I was away for a while and it seems that my brother in law was right (and is on the right by the way)

The fight IS over.
The People at DU are more concerned with in-fighting and posting a Huge Series of threads attacking each other than anything else these days.

I guess that only leaves the Greens.

It's been swell.
You all go back to fighting and calling each other names.

I have to get to Ohio.

I just hate to admit I'm wrong to an idiot with an IQ on par with his shoe size.

The freepers you keep talking about have done their work well.
No need for them to shut down the "internets" you guys are using it to their ends.

How many threads are there about Bev. And K?
Could you maybe try posting as much about the loss of democracy?
Just a thought.

I will check back Monday to see the juicy flames and wonder what the hell happened to the fight against SHRUB.

13. No not looking Baby Food - I came for
Solidarity...
Organization...

Actually I came here today looking for links about anything being organized in my area this weekend concerning Ohio. I just didn't realize this was the wrong forum.

I didn't know that fighting each other was the more important Issue.

I stand enlightened and "edjamacated" by my superiors.

I will try to be more useful.

I will cancel Ohio plans and spend the weekend researching who I hate more in the BBV movement.

As you say. I should be useful and stop wasting my time on the trivial.

(flame away - it shows how much more useful and intelligent you are and actually helps to stop vote fraud just like attacking Iraq stopped Bin Laden)

can you not see that 1000 - 2000 posts dealing with these inconsistencies now saves everyone thousands and thousands of posts being mislead and milked for hard earned cash?

i just didn't perceive that overture in your post. if you haven't
noticed, i'm new here, too...but i'm starting to get so pissed-off
that i'm becoming bold.
fighting is not the important issue; choosing who you will tolerate
representing you IS....AND IT *IS* IMPORTANT. that, in-my-ever-so-ho
is what is causing this ruckus. if Bev is to be the official talking
head for this cause, i'm sad to say that i must move my efforts
elsewhere.

Don't let these little squabbles here stop you! If I could I would be there but I'm on the left coast and it is impossible for me to go!
From http://www.uacitizensforchange.com/rally/

“The Electoral system in Ohio worked on November 2. Every eligible voter who wanted to
vote, had the opportunity to vote. There is no widespread fraud, and there was no disenfranchisement.”
-Kenneth Blackwell, Secretary of State & Ohio
Bush/Cheney 2004 Co-Chair

Franklin County - A Gahanna precinct recorded an extra 3,893 votes
for Bush, due to an unexplained touchscreen machine malfunction.
Others like this? How will we know? Unless we demand an investigation...

Lake County - The board of elections failed to enter over 10,000 new and modified registrations.

Mahoning County - In Youngstown a woman’s vote for Kerry registered as a vote for Bush. Poll workers
told her, “This has been happening all day.”

Franklin County - Voting Machines were not evenly distributed. In Bexley precinct 1B where the Governor
and many titans of business vote, lines were short or non-existent (Franklin County BOE states 139 Voters per machine).
In nearby Linden, a low income African American area, voters waited in the rain for 4 to 5 hours
(Franklin County BOE states 211 Voters per machine).

We insist on a full investigation of the thousands of complaints of voter fraud, disenfranchisement and suppression
reported throughout all 88 counties. Join us to voice our support of our most fundamental right:
Every voter counts and every vote must be counted.

We're such Progressive bundles of hope and compassion, aren't we? Quite frankly, it has been extremely bearable in this forum ever since the Bev/Keith threads have been banished to their own private ghetto. But that doesn't seem to fit the theme of the agenda that you're trying to push.
