6. Did you canvass, phone bank, do office work or |
|
visibility for Kerry? Did you drive voters to the polls?
If the answer is "yes", then don't apologize.

8. You aren't responsible for racism, fearmongering and fraud |
|
Actually, we should thank you and other Democrats in the swing states for putting up with and trying to counter this crap.

Ohio, land of low expectations, undershot even those. Pathetic. Not your fault of course, but your state is Alabama on Lake Erie.

11. It's not your fault and I'm sure you're feeling just like the rest |

of us this morning. You did your part, but it probably wouldn't have mattered if 75% of the people of the great state of Ohio voted for Kerry, they were going to give it to Bush over a year ago. This will be exactly like Nixon; a couple of years NOBODY would admit that they voted for Nixon, which I always thought was odd. We still love Ohio no matter what.

I'm feeling guilty and ashamed of myself and my state today. I feel like we let down the whole country.
On one hand, as I read the paper today, I can see what happened in my city. There were several articles about lines being 4+ hrs. long and all the precincts with huge waits should have been heavily Kerry. For example, my parents live in Rep. area and waited 15 mins., I live in a swing area and waited 2+ hrs, and in the very liberal area where I used to vote the wait was 4+ hrs. There simply weren't enough booths in Dem. strongholds and people in these areas didn't have the luxury of going to work hours late. And, there is no way to unring the bell and change the situation. Franklin Co. should have had a much larger margin of victory for Kerry.
I started volunteering for Kerry in May 2003. I was unemployed and temped whenever I could, but still had countless hours to give to the campaign. Every extra penny I had went to supplies or donations. I was lucky enough to find a good job with benefits which started a few weeks ago. I feel guilty about not giving nearly as much time to the campaign in October. I promised myself after 2000 I would never feel like there was more I could have done, but now I'm second guessing myself.
I wish I could tell the whole world that Ohio tried and we're sorry. :(
