Stalling the Vote
NYTimes Commentary

More than a month after Election Day, the race for State Senate in the 35th District has come down to this:

Senator Nicholas Spano leads his Democratic challenger, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Westchester County legislator, by 102 votes. About 1,000 ballots have not been counted yet. Lawyers in the Spano camp are challenging the validity of most of those ballots in court, for reasons having mostly to do with technical violations of election procedures.

Is this a well-intentioned effort to ensure the purity of a razor-thin election, or a display of the cynical electoral gamesmanship that has become a G.O.P. hallmark? Only the Republicans know their own hearts.

But from here, it smells.
