1. do you have anything written so far?
if you do, maybe you can post that and people can edit it to make it better, if you think it's not so good. i could help with that a little.

4. hows this ?
Dear :
On Wednesday, December 8th, Congressman Conyers along with other outstanding Representatives will be holding hearings on election irregularities in Ohio. I'm writing to encourage your support of these hearings - the validity and transparency of the electoral process is truly the foundation of our democracy, and thus I cannot think of a more worthy cause.
I am sure you are aware of the many irregularities surrounding the 2004 elections and attending the hearings or even doing a follow-up into the findings ,you will educate yourself to how many of us feel across America.
Thank you very much,

9. I don't see a thing wrong with this, pretty much just as it is
It's fine. From the heart is always the best.

Too, it's not like these guys read their mail. They're read by staffers (usually interns) and all that they do is take a tally of numbers of letters pro and con certain issues.

10. That's pretty good, but I wouldn't assume the "I am sure you are aware"
and I'd give a few brief, solid bullet points on incidents that have been widely reported in the MSM.

2. suggested letter
There are voting problems around America caused by counties buying the wrong machines.

The best voting technology being sold is optical-scan (SAT-style) paper ballots. They're inexpensive, allow people to vote quickly, and can be recounted for voting integrity.

Minnesota and Wisconsin already use optical-scan ballots statewide, and have more trustworthy elections than other states.

The technology is handicapped-accessible and HAVA-compliant.

The blind can fill-in optical-scan ballots with the help of the AutoMark from ES & S.

Information on the AutoMark is at:
http://www.essvote.com/HTML/products/automark.html

Once again, please support upgrading New York to optical-scan ballots statewide.

Dear ---

While you probably have received a lot of correspondence asking you and the Democratic Party in general to speak out about questionable incidents in the recent election, this is not one of them.

I'm not asking you to take a stand, I leave those decisions of "whether, when and how" to you and the Democratic Party leadership. As a concerned constituent, though, I simply cannot leave to chance that my Representative may be under the misimpression that so-called "wild Internet rumors" have been "debunked" or otherwise rendered inconsequential. Whether you act or not, you should be fully informed of the truth of the matter.

The outcome of this past election aside, every citizen, especially our elected officials, must be diligent in protecting the sanctity of the electoral process. Confidence in the election system is at an all time low, a fact which in and of itself presents a problem that demands redress.

So all I ask is that you follow the upcoming hearings of the House Commitee on the Judiciary and the General Accountability Office, and if at all possible, attend them in person. Serious allegations demand due consideration and fact finding, and our elected officials must be fully informed.

12. Please email Unitarian Universalist Churches in the DC area
and ask them to attend the meeting on Dec 8th for all Americans who can not be there. PLEASE BE POLITE AND DON'T SPAM THEM. These folks are from a liberal church which cares about social action and they took part in a voter registration drive. Below are their emails, a sample title and a sample letter. I STRONGLY suggest you use your own words please. If someone could post this as its own thread I would appreciate it.

Title:
URGENT CALL TO ACTION: UUs Needed to Help Make the Votes Count!

Letter:
I am writing to you today on behalf of all Americans. We can’t be there but you can attend on our behalf! On December 8th at 10:00 EST, Representative John Conyers, (Dem) Ranking Minority Member of the House Judiciary Committee will hold Ad Hoc hearings into election irregularities in Ohio. This is an unprecedented hearing which will hear evidence on consistent and widespread errors and actions which served to disenfranchise Ohio Voters. UUs NEED TO PACK THE HOUSE TO LET CONGRESS KNOW THAT WE CARE ABOUT MAKING SURE EVERY VOTE IS COUNTED AND UUs NEED TO INSIST THE MEDIA COVER THE EVENT! Voter complaints in Ohio constitute a troubled portrait of altered votes and suppressed votes. Regardless of the outcome of the election, the U.S. Government needs to examine any and all factors that may have led to these significant voting irregularities. Why have UUs been silent on this central challenge to the integrity of our voting system? Please attend on behalf of all Americans who can’t be there!
ACTION REQUEST:
Organize a phone tree to UUs in your church and in other like minded churches to get out as many people as possible for the hearing and to call and email the media insisting they cover the event. Also UUs need to call their Senator and their House Representatives and urge them to attend this hearing. THIS IS URGENT!

CONGRESSIONAL CONTACTS:
Can be found at www.house.gov and www.senate.gov or Monday morning, call the U.S. capitol switchboard three times (1-800-839-5276). Ask for your Representative, then both your Senators, and request that they attend this hearing.

BACKGROUND: Democratic Representative John Conyers, Jr. of Michigan, ranking Minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, will hold a hearing on Wednesday 08 December 2004 to investigate allegations of vote fraud and irregularities in Ohio during the 2004 Presidential election. The hearing is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. EST in the 2138 Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC.
Democratic Representatives Melvin Watt and Robert Scott will also be centrally involved with the hearing. Rev. Jesse Jackson will be in attendance, along with Ralph Neas (President, People for the American Way), Jon Greenbaum (Director, Voting Rights Project, Lawyers Committee For Civil Rights Under Law), Ellie Smeal (Executive Director, The Feminist Majority), Bob Fitrakis ( The Free Press), Cliff Arnebeck (Arnebeck Associates), John Bonifaz (General Counsel, National Voting Institute), Steve Rosenfeld (Producer, Air America Radio), and Shawnta Walcott (Communications Director, Zogby International). Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell has been invited to attend.
The term ‘hearing’ is technically not accurate in this matter, as Conyers and his fellow Representatives will be holding this forum without the blessing of the Republican Majority leader of the Judiciary Committee. Staffers from the Minority office at the Judiciary Committee describe the event as a ‘Members Briefing.’ That having been said, this event will be a hearing by every meaningful definition of the word. Expert testimony will be offered, and a good deal of data on potential fraud previously unreported to the public will be discussed and examined at length.
The core of what Conyers and his fellow Minority members will be discussing at this hearing can be found in the letter below, which was sent by the Minority office to Ohio Secretary of State Blackwell on 02 December. In the letter, Conyers, along with Reps. Watt, Nadler and Baldwin, outline a broad and detailed series of questions and concerns about the manner in which the Ohio election took place.
Please read the original letter sent to Kenneth Blackwell at this link:
