DEMOCRACY IS COMING...
to the USA!

I'm posting inspiring and wise writings every once and a while so we all remember what we are really fighting for. Keep it real, and enjoy this piece from Leonard Cohen. We aren't the first to encounter obstacles like we see today. Follow this fraud to the end!!

Democracy

"It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on ...

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A."

2. I sure hope I live long enough to see Democracy come back!
And I hope lots of folks live long enough to see it come back to the U.S.A....

Right now, I don't even know if the cockroaches will be around long enough to see it.

3. What Amazing Lyrics -- This Guy's A Genius!
I'm not familiar with his music, but I intend to give a listen. I'm reminded of John Prine.

4. My other favorite L. Cohen
is "Suzanne" sung by another artist, Neil Diamond. It's almost haunting.

6. Cohen Wrote Suzanne?
I googled his web site and listened to the sample of Suzanne. I figured he knocked it off -- did a cover.

I'm glad I stumbled on this. It promises to be like my 1985 rediscovery of Neil Young, an artist I hadn't taken seriously before then, but fell completely, head over heels, in love with. (And I was a big Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young) fan back in the day.)

What treasure.

Yahoooo!

15. We rise to play a greater part
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 12:40 AM by Jimr
From a newbie to all of you fighting the good fight.
From Leonard Cohen's latest album.

"Villanelle For Our Time"

From bitter searching of the heart,
Quickened with passion and with pain
We rise to play a greater part.
This is the faith from which we start:
Men shall know commonwealth again
From bitter searching of the heart.
We loved the easy and the smart,
But now, with keener hand and brain,
We rise to play a greater part.
The lesser loyalties depart,
And neither race nor creed remain
From bitter searching of the heart.
Not steering by the venal chart
That tricked the mass for private gain,
We rise to play a greater part.
Reshaping narrow law and art
Whose symbols are the millions slain,
From bitter searching of the heart
We rise to play a greater part.

Words by Frank Scott (1899-1985)

It's called "Dear Heather"
Mike Malloy on Air America, just used Cohen's "Democracy" as bumper music leading up to the election fraud segment with Will Pitt.

12. Excellent taste on this board! John Prine is another favorite of mine.
Blow up your tv.
Throw away your papers.
Move to the country.
Build you a home.
Plant you a garden.
Eat a lot of peaches.
Try to find Jesus,
on your own!

7. Whoohoo!!
That's a freaky coincidence, I was just typing elsewhere on the net about my rabid love for this song. :headbang: <--not that you can really headbang to Leonard Cohen, but sometimes he makes me want to.

8. Sung to the tune of "every breath you take" by the police.
I'm only going to do the chorus. Anyone else feel free to add verses.

Chorus:

Every vote you nip,
Every poll you tip,
Everyone you skip, every ballot blip,
We'll be watching you.

Every little quirk,
Every challenge jerk,
Every county clerk, gonna go to work,
We'll be watching you.

Oh, can you see,
Voting keeps us free,
If this thing breaks,
Everything's at stake!

Forgeries you make,
The result was fake,
Ready to retake, We are now awake,
We’ll be watching you.

14. Funny he said exactly what I've been feeling
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there

Nothing seems quite real any more.

19. aw man~that makes me so sad
America is suppose to be the beacon of Democracy. We are suppose to be the shining light of Democracy. To think of where we stand today in the world makes me sick to my stomach.
These are good lyrics-but it is very sad.
