Representative blames Democrats for Voter Problems
I just got a form letter from one of my representatives, John Boehner, Rep, OH. While it is a (very long) form letter. This is a letter against the use of a centralized voting system.

One of the things he (or his staff) says is

"In 1993, the Democrats were able to override many state
and local provisions that deterred fraud with the 1993 Motor Voter
legislation, and some have a long range goal of further eroding
those protections with concepts such as election-day registration
and more emphasis on mail ballots, ballots delivered to the polls by
third parties, and off-site voting."

Curious how Wyoming (usually seen as a "red" state) allows same-day registration and is tauting the wonderfulness of it all http://www.casperstartribune.net/articles/2004/11/06/ne... with a 106% turnout -- yet here, in Ohio, it is seen as something the Dems dreamed up for manipulating a vote.

I'd like to counterpoint his statements -- but do not know the "problems" associated with motor voter registration in particular. Will research tonight -- but let me know if you know anything about the issue.

thanks!

1. Google provided
150,000 entries for motor voter, here's but one:

http://www.afscme.org/about/resolute/1992/r30-015.htm

The thing to remember about voter issues is that both parties, when in the majority, have screwed with the process to their own advantage. Re-districting, etc. to the point where the whole electoral system is in dire need of repair.

The problems in Ohio have little to do with Motor Voter legislation I suspect and a lot more to do with the fact that the Republican chairman of the Re-elect Bush campaign was in charge of elections, several precincts and districts were run by Republicans , an obvious effort was made to make it difficult for traditional democratic precincts to vote vis-a-vis numbers of available voting machines, unreasonable requirements on both absentee and provisional ballots. One chairperson (GOP of course)required birth dates to be on the envelopes of provisional ballots and ordered those without them to be discarded uncounted......etc.,etc.,etc.

2. The fact is
you are for counting votes fairly and reforming the system, or you aren't. Responding with a partisan attack on what is clearly an issue fundmentally american and affecting all her citizens, is ludicrous.

Perhaps you might enlighten the inferior intellects to exactly what you found to be partisan and what was an attack? Or do you just enjoy being a newbee with attitude but no substance?

4. Complaint I've heard about motor voter is
that non-citizens can get driver's licenses whether legal or illegal. If you use driver's licenses to get voter registration you will have non-citizens getting voter registrations and voting.

Have no idea how or if this is screened. That's just the complaints I've heard.
