WILL PITT - From the Hearing |
|
t r u t h o u t | Conyers Hearings on Ohio Vote Fraud Coverage By William Rivers Pitt
Wednesday 08 December 2004 09:20AM
I have secured a great seat inside the hearing room here in the Rayburn building. If you are in the neighborhood, it is in room 2237. Better hurry, though. The staffers are talking about overflow rooms. They are expecting a big crowd.
There are a lot of cameras here. Pacifica Radio is already set up. The whole world is watching.

5. CNN Headline News Reporting |
|
They are reporting the Alliance for Democracy suit claim of fraud in "heavily republican districts" over the graphic "Election Fraud?"
It includes the request to throw out the results and "declare John Kerry the winner."
Then reports the hearing with Congressmen and Jesse Jackson being held this morning.
Good straight report.

I've set my VCR from 10:00 to 4:00 -- couldn't do more than 6 hours -- but would love to hear what's going on as the day goes on while I'm at work.

It won't matter if they have full-color 8x10 glossy pictures of Bush personally altering election results from the Oval Office computer.
It won't matter if they have a signed affidavit from Karl Rove, admitting that he masterminded the fraud.
It won't matter if they have videotape footage of Osama Bin Ladin helping to set up voting machines in Ohio.
Without Kerry to spearhead this issue, all this information is doomed to be shelved in the same area as people who believe that UFOs have Elvis's brain.
I'll be at my state capital this weekend to protest the fraud, like every true American who believes in Democracy should; But I have no illusions as to what an uphill battle this is going to be.

12. Why predict that it's going to go badly? |
|
It's important to know what you're up against, and to constantly check illusions with reality, but why PREDICT that this must go badly? It's just an emotional statement, that will have an emotional effect on others, causing depression and despair. Remember, it's also important to have dreams--to positively imagine the best outcome.
Think Gandhi. Think Martin Luther King. Think Nelson Mandela--30 years in jail. Were they pessimists?
I'm sure they had their dreadful and despairing moments, but something buoyed them up, kept their faith the future alive, and they did their best to be supportive and inspiring toward others.
Fighting for democracy, for the poor and disenfranchised, and for ourselves, can be hard and dangerous. We all need to give some thought to the impact of our words on others, and on their ability to muster their courage, to keep their spirits up, to do their best, and to keep their dreams and highest aspirations in tact.
